re: 20th Ranked BYU's Chances at the Playoffs?

I know that, but people were on this site complaining about them after they beat Miami, discrediting wins. Then when they hammered OU, they complained that OU was down.
If BYU goes unbeaten I think they will go into one of the top 4, due to name, wins, and I do not think there will be 4 unbeatens. It will be very hard to leave an u nbeaten out over a 1 loss non champion.
To me, Penn State is going to be the one to watch, especially if they run the table or get beaten 1 time and there is only 2 unbeatens.
ETA:
The way I see it right now and if teams stay unbeaten etc...
SECCG Winner
Oregon
Penn St or BYU (if unbeaten)
FSU

I hope it happens personally. I do think they will get left out though. I also think that by not destroying teams it's really hurting their chances.

The reason I left the BigXII out is I think that OU/oSu/Baylor will each have a conference loss, hurting their chances.

Its important to me because BYU has way fewer issues between them and a undefeated resume. Whereas Alabama, LSU, AU, Tamu, etc have a bunch of hard games and going undefeated is a huge feat, if not nearly impossible.
With SOS being taken out of the mix you are punishing teams who play good schedules.

Okay who is to say that playing LSU is difficult? It is off bias' (being devil's advocate here)
I think SOS are overvalued and that winning games is most important not who you play.
IIRC, there has only been 7 unbeatens since 2008, so if you go unbeaten you deserve a chance.
If you have noticed every conference has started lobbying for their schools already.

Kige this. They have tOSU which is a winnable game if they show the chest.

sure, if the only thing you know about football is who the biggest brands are that is true.
in reality ND's schedule that year was weak sauce.
USC, Miami, Michigan, and Michigan State were all completely mediocre. They got to play Stanford when they were still trotting out Nuenes at QB and it took a horseshite call by a ref blowing a goal line play dead to to seal it. Their only good win was vs OU who won a down Big 12 and went on to get thoroughly annihilated by A&M in a game that was nowhere near as close as the score. By the way, when talking about the game vs the score, that ND/OU game wasn't the beat down you are acting like either. It was tied with 9 minutes left and ND only took the lead w/5 left in the 4th.
Let's also no forget that ND needed OT to beat a shite Pitt team and damn near lost to a weak Purdue team.

Do you think the 2008 Utah Utes would of made the playoffs? I still can't believe the arse whooping they gave Bama. Bama went into the game double digit favorites too.
Posted on 9/24/14 at 2:49 pm to Socratics
SC was 12-1
tOSU was 10-3
Penn St was 11-2
Texas was 12-1
Virginia Tech and Cincy had multiple losses IIRC
So they were in line to be in the discussion and since one of if not the only unbeaten yes they should have gone.
ETA: Didn't Utah finish as high as 2 in some polls also?

If BYU goes undefeated, they will have beaten
Texas - BIG 12
Virginia - ACC
California - PAC 12
UCF
Boise St
Houston
Thats better than any schedule the Boise St teams of the past ever played. If there were a playoff back then, Boise St would have made it multiple times with playing weaker schedules. Let the season play out. I think at the end of the year all of those teams i mentioned could be 9 win teams. Then what? For anybody who is saying there is "zero" chance, they are in denial of what can happen in college football. BYU is very much a contender IMO.

Key word in all your statements is won. They were the ONLY unbeaten. So do not act like they did nothing. People before the year said they would be 7-5, 6-6. They rolled people they won. They did what was asked. I love revisionist haters.
So if BYU goes unbeaten they will be like Notre Dame and get an invite.

Unfortunately, this is sometimes what being an Independent gets you - a shite schedule. BYU will not be in the four-team playoff if they win out.
I can't imagine what FSU, Oregon, Oklahoma, Alabama, Auburn, and A&M would do to BYUs schedule.

So in one argument you state that ND needs to join a conference or they will be left out of the playoff. In another, you're claiming BYU will be selected if they win out.

You are so wrong.
Do not act like everyone would go unbeaten with BYU schedule that you listed. It is very hard to be unbeaten that is why it is done so rarely. And if BYU goes unbeaten and gets left out, it makes the CFB Playoff a joke.

I don't think everyone would go unbeaten with BYU's schedule. I understand how difficult it is to go through a schedule undefeated. For the teams I listed, however, they absolutely would. BYU's schedule is putrid. Zero ranked opponents and they're supposed to be a playoff team if they win out? Please.
The only teams BYU played last season that finished in the Top 25, they lost to. They still have that same very good running quarterback that somehow forgets how to pass against a quality opponent.
I'm not denying that they are a quality team. I just don't think they deserve a spot in the four-team playoff if they finish undefeated.

Last season has nothing to do with this season, yet everyone uses it to discredit BYU, Notre Dame, Boise etc.
The teams you listed maybe 1 or 2 would go unbeaten, but not all. I am sorry but I dont see OU or aTm going to Boise and winning, due to style they play. Also BYU plays 6 at home, most of teams you listed play 8 at home.
