This is very interesting. Since chase format driver with best avg finish doesn’t win title most years

I get it. Not hating on either side. Just one of those things that the penalty really doesn’t penalize the recipient. Guess that was where my concern was.

Joey being the champion with a 17th place average finish broke me. I was already out on the format when rowdy won despite missing 2/3 of the season.
But he did come back on a tear. Joey was mediocre, except for 4 races.

I know Joey hates this points format because it’s based on consistency (even if it’s only for 10 races) versus striking gold by winning a race to advance. He and his crew chief always found a way to win when they needed it most. He’s the definition of clutch in the old playoff format. Never liked it either.

I’d argue Joey benefitted from playoffs more than Jimmie benefitted from the original chase.
I’m still team full season, but can live with the chase if they continue mix up the schedule.

Regular season
Only top 20 finishers get points in each race. (+5 for the win)
No stages points, no laps led points(especially staying out during cautions to get points)
Better, harder racing in every race.
No bullshite feel good points. It is not needed, if the racing is good. Many more race within the races would happen instead of just driving around.
Playoffs with a twist
Top sixteen teams
Bring back the win and your in.
Getting a win is more prized than some one who averages 16th but never contends for a win.
After that have a 12 race playoff
Lowest driver bumped every week.
Get down to 4 drivers
Last race for all the marbles.

I’ll be honest, I don’t agree with much you put forward. I actually have a picture with a breakdown of what I’d do for points. Can’t figure out how to put it in here. Lol

Were the last 11 years not bad enough?

I just figure giving points to everyone racing is bullshite.
If you can’t be competitive then put it in the trailer.
If you are not in the top half of the field you get nothing

So 20 cars on track? I’m not following your logic. Last place gets a single point. That one point too much?
I’d give stage points to the top ten at halfway. That’s about it.

No full allotment of cars but only top 20 get points.
I think it would make the lower tier teams become more competitive. they would have to work harder to stay relevant.

Better chance they’d take their ball and go home. Wouldn’t have a full field.

You can’t do that in Nascar. Some back marker takes you out and season is over. And it would 100% happen.
One race should never eliminate you.
I like your top 20 points idea. Would help get some cars off track who are pretty damaged. Now they race for points in 38th or 36th but knowing they can’t get to 20th they’d park for day.

Y’all don’t forget about the truck race this evening. Layne basically needs to win this race to have a chance going into next week. If not, Honeycutt, with a good race, will finish the deal tonight.

Honeycutt started slow but impressed since May. I wonder what his prospects are beyond trucks. We all know Riggs is destined for a front row cup ride.
Honestly he should be in the 4 next year. Gragson is arse.

Some jackass on Facebook wants the playoffs back because the one race playoff is “exciting.”
So by his logic a guy could win the first 35 races and lose the title in a “winner take all” finale. And be completely fine with that.
Last year Broc Feeney won 14/34 Supercars races and was relegated to third place because of the playoff system they run. It’s ludicrous that he wasn’t the champ.

Even though Riggs has more wins than Honeycutt this year, KH is more consistent as a driver.
In the last 10 races, Honeycutt’s worst finish is 11th with 7 top 5 finishes and 3 wins during that span.
Also during that span, Riggs’ worst finish is 32nd alongside only 5 top 5 finishes and 3 wins. He has poor finishes 23rd, 15th, and 19th too.

Riggs has a fast truck and won stage 1. KH finished 7th
