Since 1997, which is when I started watching….
1998, 2001, 2003 for sure.
1999, 2000, & 2002 I can’t remember.
1997 Jeff Gordon beat Dale Jarrett by 14 points. And mark martin was right there too.

This year has been awesome reading everyone’s replies, following along during races, and catching up on breaking news posts. I hope this continues during the offseason! Y’all are the best!
Nascar is a unique sport. Most have a favorite driver or two. But at same time the sport has all teams playing at the same time trying to win. Other sports go head to head alone. So knowing how hard it is to win you watch other teams race and can find fun in that
So in that regard there is a lot of common ground yet so many differences of opinion. And each poster isn’t going to sugarcoat their thoughts which is the probably what makes the thread work. We’ve even cussed at each other and yet its because of different stances with the sport and not a hate type thing. In real life we could all meet at a bar and drink lots of beer and shoot the breeze without worry.
No one is right and no one is wrong, it’s all opinions. I think in other sports threads there are too many posters and everyone jumps on the bandwagon and silences other voices or those trying to make a point. Its like too many people can ruin threads because its too hard ti have any true discussion. Its like you said just jokesters trying for the best joke. We’ve all done it but its normal there. Here is just a few fans posting so we are beyond that.
Here we may not agree on a topic but we can argue thru it and still post without worry. And everyone has the chance to say what they think without herd mentality ruining the thread. Most other sports threads have 80% of posters who don’t really care and just post to one up someone for fun. I think everyone here is serious enough to actually discuss without some random poster doing a drive by so to speak.

Well said OU. All of us could probably talk nascar all day over beers and bbq. And not realize a whole day went by. We are all fans who really enjoy nascar for what it is.

And sometimes when our driver has no chance to win I hate watch lol. What I mean is we all have drivers we don’t like so if said driver is in position to win I find myself rooting for another driver who I really don’t care for much but would rather see win than my hated driver.
And also you have moments like Sun where Larson did something so amazing you were just glad to see it happen because it was a display of great driving. Those moments are rare these days because the cars are so closely matched. And the only way he could win was to time it perfectly and slingshot from a run and dive to bottom. In plate tracks thats unheard of to go from 1st to 8th to 1st in the same lap.
It doesn’t matter who your driver is, that was just pure great racing. So many things could have happened to prevent it. And yet he did it by planning snd executing it perfectly. And other drivers could have blocked lower lane but didn’t think it was possible so were protecting other lanes.
Those kind of moments are what brings most of us back even me who has soured on the sport greatly. That was Dale Sr type shite only better due to how many he passed back on one lap.

Kinda how I became an SVG fan. I’d heard of the guy and followed him to an extent. Back when speed channel showed supercars, I saw his first win at Wellington.
Fast forward to 2023 and he’s running Chicago. I figured he would be a player early. Not win the frickin thing lol. True talent and have enjoyed his progression to this point.
But what Larson did Sunday was just jaw dropping. Lead. To 11th. Back to the lead. In one lap. Insane.

Like Dale did at Dega when he went from 21st to 1st in 2 laps

So every decision is based on a judgment call by NASCAR. Something could be called this week but not next week.

Sounds like SEC officiating.

The fact Nascar had to threaten “racers” to race faster tells you all you need to know about this car and their rules.
I mentioned earlier in thread that changing the stage lengths would not eliminate fuel savings.
I mentioned they should cut fuel tank size for the 4 big plate races to 12 gallons or so. This way it forces more pit stops and cars would go faster to gain time to help minimize pit stop time. Also would break up packs more and add strategy/excitement
Plus a pit stop is not all pit crew. It requires extra driver skill to get down to speed, maximize pit lane speed and get in box without sliding tires plus not too close to wall. And get back out get not speed and then get back up to speed.
Drivers do more work for a pit stop than just riding around under green does. More stops fixes fuel saving plus asks more of drivet skill.
That Nascar had to ask drivers to go faster is just laughable and yet I bet Nascar doesn’t connect the dots of bad rules and car.

I laughed way too hard at this. And its pretty spot on
Also, Nascar invented fake cautions before football caught on lol.

I said last night to someone on Reddit that what would the punishment be for Austin hill for going below the line? Tail end of lead lap? He was already there. It would be nothing more than a footnote in the book.
But then I guess it would be better than saying nothing.

I think you do it for consistency. In a few years someone will show a pic of him below line and then look up penalties given and not see one. And that person will likely not know about him being last on lead lap from fuel running out and argue Nascar isn’t fair in penalties and use his non-penalty as example of Nascar being selective
Its better to give the penalty so others know its enforced 100% of time not just when they feel like it. To me the penalty overrides anything else
