Plate ump reacted as soon as he realized the batter did not advance. His responsibility is the plate and runner from 3rd. As soon as he saw it he trotted towards first.
I didn't see a kid in shorts on field or near 1b when ball was caught.
again out could have been called for the pile up on batter/runner.
I have seen it called where:
batter is IW and stands there mouthing off to pitcher calling him some choice words then SLOWLY walks to 1b continuing to mouth off to pitcher.
Rams up 6-2 in 6
Cubs up 5-4 in 5

That’s my rub with the issue after seeing it…
I won’t criticize their decision as they followed the rules but the home plate ump bailed after shaking hands with catcher(a great player in his right) and everyone at first just went about releasing their emotions. The umps started leaving not fully controlling their business. They should look to modifying the rules as they’ve done a lot to curb the excessive celebrations but when that bottle is opened it’s tough to control… As long as the winning run touches home, it shouldn’t matter if they all advance and touch the next base in walk or dead ball play…
In the end. regardless of how they handled it up until the decision to award the appeal , had to follow the established rules.

call was made by 1b ump by then. Out could easily have been called before the appeal as well.

BM kids are trash. Look at the way they’re looking at the Catholic kid. Basically taunting him. So glad they lost to them yet again. At this point, Catholic is their daddy.

A base on balls turned into a race to first base. That isn’t the intent of an appeal rule.
What if a receiver is running wide open for a game winning TD and drops the ball in celebration before crossing the goal line? Should they be awarded the TD?
