The computers on the cars were already doing a tremendous amount of work for the driver. So now they have to be more intentional. I don’t find that a convincing argument from the drivers.

Top drivers having fun and like the formula. Other drivers not liking the formula. If I didn't have a superior car I would be asking for the formula to change some too.

Better than DRS trains at this point. Still seem to have the problem of drivers managing race pace to a strategy and not pushing to race someone.

Seems like this is the case most races. Race pace sorts the cars from qualifying positions and then if no safety cars it kinda is what it is.

Thats naturally going to happen, but I think the issue is drivers saying its just not fun and is like playing a video game. Even Leclerc said something about it being like using the mushroom boost in Mario Kart.

Will be interesting to see how things play out in China

We would have gotten an exciting ending last night if Mercedes would have been forced to pit again. Them having the fastest car/best engine and being able to put 45 laps on a set of tires hurt the product.

I mean, you hate to see them manipulate things and don't want to see F1 go the way of Nascar with the 3 stages and different points, but requiring drivers to run on all 3 tire compounds would throw a wrench into those long runs to the end.

F1 goes through a long process to sort the cars and put the fastest ones at the front. Then they run the race and everyone expects their to be some huge shuffle. F1 has introduced some strategy impacts to bring jeopardy to an already balanced field and force that reshuffle.

The thing is, overtakes are artificial. Its not a better driver making passes its only because the lead car has no power thats been reduced intentionally. Thats what some drovers hate. They feel they’re just a pawn sitting in a car being raced by gadgets and not skill.

Here’s a take by a Nascar driver

F1 has an electric series and its all about battery management. They have spots on track you have to drive extra distance to get extra battery boost and you lose spots (but are required to do this twice). So you give up spots intentionally to get more power. I watched it one time and that was it, it sucked.

I expect Max to leave F1 after this year. He has the money and can go have fun in other racing venues. I can’t believe how badly they ruined F1 with these gimmicks. Those should only be used on sub series.

We will see but it honestly beat watching one car hold up the entire rest of the pack because nobody can pass anybody due to DRS not being strong enough. If it gives us overtakes in other areas other than a few turns it will be entertaining to watch.

The F2 race was more fun than the F1 race

Indycar has the right formula, push to pass. It doesn’t degrade or reduce power to any car like F1, it gives you more power in spurts. And you have a limited amount so have to use it wisely. It doesn’t take a degree to figure it out either.

F1 got it wrong going to these half electric lawnmower engine setups. Its a disgrace to racing. This is just participation trophies disguised as race cars.

In 5 years you won’t have drivers in F1 cars, you will have engineers who are great at managing battery management

What were/are the computers doing for the drivers exactly?

No ABS. No Traction. No stability.

Anywhere but F1

He won’t make as much money in salary but does well with sponsorship money. And would immediately boost the series he goes to bringing them bigger sponsor money. Look at that soccer star who went to Miami for an example. Any series would pay extra money for him.

The cars may be hybrid powered but the drivers are getting the EV battery level anxiety experience.

Hell, I hope he races in the NLS or WEC and brings viewers etc over to those series.

I think it’d be cool as hell for Max to go race various sports.
NASCAR
Indy
Rally.
