Remind me again. Straight mode is the active aero? They still get additional battery from the 1 second rule, right?
DRS was usually on the grid straight, if I remember correctly, and it was basically useless. You never reached top speeds, so DRS was never an advantage.

Straight mode is when the front and rear wings open. They have a rule where it can’t be used unless it can be open for 3+ seconds.

They should almost delete the moveable bits on the front and rear wings to save weight then.
At least the fronts to save money if it gets broken off.

It was a bigger advantage on tracks that required a lot of downforce than it was on faster tracks

It's going to be a bloodbath for Kimi and George. I wouldnt be surprised if they both want it so bad they take each other out.
I do see Charles and Lewis doing extremely well.

Probably not worth it in a cost cap world to develop a stationary wing. Also with minimum weights they would just have to add the weight back somewhere else which is beneficial to optimize where you have extra weight but not as big of an impact as dumping it all together.

That's exactly what we the fans need to see, a virtual knife fight.
I still remember 2016 and my impression that Rosberg drove desperately to try to get an advantage over Hamilton. Hamilton was of course a cooler head and still fierce competitor, not wanting to give an inch.
Edit: What's funny is, in reviewing the two biggest incidents between them in 2016 (Spain and Austria), it was Hamilton that seemed the more desperate driver. I should probably should review the season on F1TV.

I think this might be the first race without a Mercedes on pole. The nature of the track limits their power advantage and the Ferrari is the best car thru the turns.

I wonder if they have wings without it?
I don’t think any of the teams are close to the weight limit so that’s probably not a concern

I doubt they do but maybe. It would take some solid foresight to figure that out and I think considering how they overlooked the start procedure (except Ferrari) it shows how preoccupied they were with the new regs and not optimizing for circuits or other minor things.

I was trying to throw a hail mary and get some points back on the board for the F1 Pick 'em (seeing as how I suck at it), and I asked Claude to help me out trying to pick the order based on recent car updates, races, historical driver performance, etc.
It was looking good until it put Alonso at 9 and Yuki at 10. So, yeah, Claude was less than zero help

If tweet fails to load, click here. There shouldn't be too many problems collecting energy, which means there will be plenty of power available and no long straights to drain the battery, which creates the problem of cars being too fast for the circuit
To help minimise the risk of trouble, the FIA is mandating for Monaco the use of a different engine mode setting that limits maximum power deployment on the straights

AI can be helpful if you ask it very, very specific questions. However, I've asked AI for information about events that happened in a specific year, and it would return with info about the same event but from a different year. So yeah, since it can't be trusted to extract time-based information, it can be useless for certain types of queries.
