LHSAA Semifinals

Catholic is 3-1 vs WM since the split and 2-0 vs ASH(now “private”)

So 5-1 vs 2-5a

They are also around 5-1 vs Zachary

3-1 vs Acadiana (now “private”)

2-0 vs Destrehan

None of the big publics can beat them

that's not 2-5a bro

if anything will kill or reduce the split this will. But principals make the rules and they like - no love more champs.

Also the rule change going into effect next year where only 5A is Division I in select and nonselect

28 of 37 nonselect schools will make the playoffs and 24 of 28 select schools will

Just for the record, Zachary never voted for the split when it started.

I just hope for Hudson's sake he beats Karr by 4 TDs or you and other curr dogs will be on here talking about the curr dog life philosophy and how Hudson doesn't have it.

No question everything is watered down since the split. 5A public is the worst, no private schools to have to compete with, strong public school teams like Acadiana, Carencro, etc. have to play in the select bracket, they are mixing in 4A teams in the 5A bracket. Still have to beat a few good teams to win it all, but not anything like it was pre-split.

My beef about the split and classification between schools is that it is only determined by school size. It doesn’t take into account sport specific participation.

You may have a class 3A or 4A school where they can field a football team of 100 students, while a 5A school can barely field a team of 40 students.

If only the LHSAA came up with formula to address this, but it could become a hot mess for lesser sports like basketball that have more reasonable rosters for smaller schools.

You could end up with a school that would be 5A in football but 3A in other sports like basketball and play in totally different districts.

That could help out with parity by matching schools with levels of play instead of using a metric (enrollment) that doesn’t even account for the number of athletes at a school.

Enrollment accounts for it on a good enough basis to separate 400 schools… like you know class 5A will have a higher level of play than class 1A.

but you’re right, it doesn’t catch the singular outliers that made themselves that way like John Curtis, and doesn’t help the schools affected by demographics like a Grace King

And enrollment doesn’t account for the general societal emphasis on HS sports as opposed to back in the day… like when all schools had barebones programs back in the day it was a better indicator of potential, but it doesn’t help when going in you know that a small 5A Karr or a 3A Curtis is a P4 finishing school and their competition is still the same barebones program from years ago

Also, the season overlap is pretty strong in those lower classifications. You have some schools that think they are going to make a deep run in the football playoffs that will not start playing basketball games until December while some schools have a month of games and tournaments under their belt.

Definitely a lot of parity and weird Power Rating calculations when the season ends and one school has 25 games and another has 40.

No...no they are not. They're 2-1 with a loss THIS YEAR. You BACKED OUT of the previous contract. You won the first game, then backed out of a signed contract the next season. All time You are 2-6 against WM.

What an absolute lie

What is true is WM is terrified of Catholic and every select school based on how they vote….. No wonder they can’t compete for titles anymore. Being scared of competition leaks into the fabric of their players

Good analysis.

Montrell Conner reminds me some of former OPHS QB Josh Strong, who I was a big fan of while working for Pelican Preps, the La. Rivals site.

Went to Strong and Ouachita vs. Bastrop in the semis about 20 years ago. They were in the same district.

Here's non-select picks: LINK

Clean, just think about it. Two years ago Connor and Dade were running the backfield of the St. Frederick Warriors. How good would THAT team have been had they stayed there???? (I mean, they made the correct move...but those guys would light up the small schools.)

Back in the day, I had a pic of Conner's dad in my avatar or sig.

The poster Orko said he had a lazy eye, and I went ballistic on here. Good ole days.

With your QB getting them the ball they would be destroying teams. Almost had Ponti go with them as well out of junior high.

I don't disagree on the first part.

I actually pull for Catholic when not going against Zachary now because of Hudson.

I think we can all agree WM is probably somehow going to get cheated by the refs this weekend.
