I believe he was with Penske previously ^

It's worth listening to Pato's press conference after qualy. He is pumped, and very candid in his answers.
He is especially candid about his feelings about Penske's shenanigans. He believes that if they were caught cheating on Sunday, guaranteed the cheat was there on Saturday, so he thinks they should have been disqualified from Saturday's results as well and forced to do the Last Chance Qualifying on Sunday. Man, this is so worth listening to.

Great David Land per usual
Shwartzman gives me Helio vibes in terms of having charisma and being authentic . He is going to be a fan favorite for a long time

Interesting, Power's car passed tech, but when Newgarden went to tech, the inspector didn't like something about the rear attenuator, and it wasn't something they could easily fix.
It sounds like they filled a seam to improve aerodynamics, and maybe McLaughlin's crashed car from this morning did not have the filled seam, so it was something that they did since the practice session. Something like that.
So it was confirmed that McLaughlin's crashed car was legal, so Newgarden and Power are the only ones going to the back, where Pato said they should be. It's fine that they didn't have to do LCQ since they would have been so much faster than the other two that they would have been competing against.
However, it's unfortunate that Conor Daly (P13) and Alexander Rossi (P14) were unable to participate in the Fast 12.

Short of a full DQ which would never happen, this is a good move. Wonder how long it will take them to get up front?
ETA: they should put Abel back in the field and let all 34 of them run. Was looking forward to seeing the Miller High Life car, but he's probably a safety liability on the track with how slow he was...as well as Veekay

Can someone explain this like Im 5 so I can devlope my own level of Penske hate? Im really confused.
Did a Penske car get seen grinding a seam in public view, and a whistle blower came forward? Then Tech went to the other Penske car not through Tech yet? Was the grind a cover up of a cover up?
Are these seams vendor supplied and potentionally different from set to set ... some seams smoother than others?
Im seeing some reports that seams were modified in previous years (from Penske). Was the grinding legal then?
Im also seeing some additional suspended persons including a Data Engineer. Is this finding a scape goat or a lower member of team trying to find unique ways to bend rules?

1. Penske owns the 2 cars involved in the illegal black/white rules re: modification to the car. Penske also owns the McGlaughin car that wrecked in practice ahead of final qualifying but supposedly his car was not modified as the other 2. Team didn't have time to build another car in time to make final qualifying.
2. Penske also owns the Indy Car series
3. Penske also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
So basically, the fox is in the henhouse type of deal because the race/inspection/procedures are not carried out by an unbiased 3rd party governing organization.
Car 1 perp (Will Power) "passed" inspection but sounds like it was iffy and inspector had questions but passed him through anyway. Car 2 perp (Newgarden) had same issue and inspector calls a TO while in inspection. Meanwhile, Power's crew pulls the attenuator out on pit road after "passing" inspection and starts grinding the sealing they put around the attenuator off as result of Newgarden's car being caught...Also totally against the rules to modify anything other than tire pressures/wing angles after passing inspection. Chip Gnassi (owner of other dominate Indy Car team) calls the BS out while on pit road. shite show ensues...

Is this gonna be a big deal or will it blow over? Apparantly the car Newgarden won with last year is on display at an on site museum and people are saying it has the same modification. Will they strip him of his win?

Passed inspection so I’m not sure how they can retroactively do that. The issue is Penske owning a team, the track and series. It’s a bad look and he probably needs to give up 2 of the 3.

Have not seen that, but will be interesting to follow
ETA: couple that with the P2P (push to pass) scandal involving the same teams last year, it could get very interesting

RP has got to divest from the series ASAP
I love that he is the owner of the IMS , he's the perfect steward to ensure it maintains its status as the greatest racecourse in the world. He also has a solid track-record as a track owner so that precedent has been set.
I also hope he/the family continue to own Team Penske- a brand as legendary as Scuderia Ferrari, Mclaren, Williams etc.
However, he needs to either become a minority (49% owner of Indycar) or sell teh series outright to Nascar or LIberty or another party who can take the sport to the same heights it achieved in the 1990s.

i def think they could see a boost similar to f1 when ecclestone got out. i read an article where 70% of indy 500 viewers don't watch any other races. that's crazy. indy/penske seems happy to let the rest of the season languish in obscurity.

On one hand, I hate the idea of NASCAR buying it. They'd almost definitely go to playoffs, which suck. On the other hand, working in conjunction with the Cup series is probably the best way to grow. Cross promotion, double headers, etc.

At times, with CART, Penske owned a team, owned tracks, and promoted races. That's a bit much.
