That was incredible. We started watching at 8:30 this morning. I tried to get some work done starting at around eleven, thinking it was going to be over quickly, but I checked the score around 12:15 and locked back in.

That was as fine a tennis match I have ever seen.

One of the best matches I ever saw

I’m happy for alcaraz

He didn’t play a great match but gave us a fantastic comeback when it looked like Sinner was on a roll.
He could have caved after being down 2 sets but he showed a lot of moxie and determination.

Vamos!

Imagine having triple match point AND an entire set cushion and losing.
I still don’t consider it a choke. From a physical standpoint it seems like Alcaraz should be better anyways. A pure athletic ace versus a robot. Unbelievable match

Yeah I'm personally not going to call it a choke, but it fits the bill.

Federer had a Wimbledon final with multiple match points on his serve against Novak…

Yeah but that wasn't a two set comeback.

I'm reminded of the 1995 French Open comeback stunner by Lafayette's own Chanda Rubin.
quote:

In the 1995 French Open, Chanda Rubin famously came back from a 5-0, 40-love deficit in the third set against Jana Novotna to win the match. This comeback is considered one of the biggest in Grand Slam history, as Novotna, the fifth-seeded player, blew nine match points.

But this match today was two sets and championship point down and lasted more than five hours. And the shots these guys were hitting after being on the court that long were unbelievable.

Chandas brother used to kick my arse on the reg. One time I was able to push him to 6-4 in a set and my parents were so proud of me that we went to a Japanese hibachi in Lafayette to celebrate

The thing that put this match over the top as my fav ever was style and likability and the crowd all in Carlos' favour. With the Novak / Federer classics they were both likeable guys (at least to me).

Today there was a clear "good guy" that most everyone was rooting for.

Tell me the tight points Sinner played there

Sometimes you lose points, it happens. He didn’t play tight

Just went back and watched every point. 40-0. Watch the next 3 points. He was tight. Then he hit another forehand long and then he hit into the net. Then, on his serve he hits a long forehand and McEnroe says along the lines of "he's been tight in the last point and that shot"

The only thing sad about this tournament was how so many of you foolishly cheered for Coco yesterday. Still very disappointed. Hoping you lot wise up for Wimbledon.

I got what I deserved betting on that cheating lucifer. I heard a stat the other day that if Alcaraz won today, it would be on the same day of his life that Nadal won his fifth major. I should never have gone against that kind of karma/symmetry.

Darth Sinner hadn't dropped a set all tournament. Don't be so hard on yourself - Alvarez did something special today.
