Some back and forth Horsepower talk:

"I’ve heard (Hendrick powertrain director) Scott Maxim say we could bring 1,000 horsepower next week and it wouldn’t cost more. ... I wish we would at least try it."
Kyle Larson the latest to advocate for Cup power increase

Wish horsepower wasn’t such a bad word. Also i see some people mistaking torque for HP. More go really wouldn’t put a ton of strain on these parts.Besides, would that be a bad thing anyway?Cars are too bullet proof. Make it so the driver would decide if he wants to go hard or not
There was a time guys couldn’t run hard all race without breaking parts. Now days that just really don’t happen that much. It wasn’t a bad thing either, the guys that did their job saving brakes at RC races or lifting to keep the oil pressure up on plate tracks, they lasted

Do you feel like this ultimately comes down to nascar just wants to pass the eye test of close racing? I mean I expect the 5 and 24 to be up front whether it’s 670hp or 1000hp either way but one option here offers them more opportunity to race, which seems smarter to me

I think it’s more about a theory of how to make good racing. To me more HP would take more driver finesse. Less power means the car has to be trimmed out more and usually means the guy that can hang on the longest wins. Current regime just has a different opinion

In the 80s and 90s the guys that ran the guts out their cars from the drop of the green flag were usually not the ones up front at the end.
Hell, now the tires barely even wear.

Hey. You’re on the right track Brad. Horsepower is the only thing that can overcome the aero problems with the current car. It seems that a 2nd place car can catch the leader, but can’t pass because of the aero. HP would overcome this disadvantage.

@FoxTV got 4.028 million viewers for Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix, up 19% from 3.389 million last year and the most-watched sports event of the weekend.
——
In 2023, NASCAR had four races with over 4 million viewers during the entire year (Daytona, Chicago, Talladega, Fontana). This year, all four of the first four races had over 4 million viewers

To summarize, the Pheonix race was spiced by a tire difference. Had they all been on same tire then Bell likely doesn’t make that push. But he was the best of the newest tire cars, credit to him for having a great car and driving it great too.
Bell restarted 21st on Lap 221 on new tires.
Truex restarted 1st on 31 lap old tires.
It only took 15 laps for Bell to make it to 9th and equal the lap time of Truex.
16 laps later on Lap 252 and Bell was in 5th and 2 tenths faster than Truex.

Joey Logano, who has crashed in three of four races to open this season, says John Hunter Nemechek needs to be ‘man enough’ to ‘own’ that he made a mistake.

Oh yeah, Logano's gonna send him if he gets the chance.

IDK, I don't think Joey has had the fire that he used to have for a couple of years now... which is telling about the current state of the sport since he is a recent champion

At this point, I'm pretty certain Honda will come to NASCAR. Only question is whether it will be in 2026 or 2027. NASCAR will create 4 new charters. I would not be shocked if Chip Ganassi bought 2 of them to get back into NASCAR (he didn't want to leave, Justin Marks just Godfather'd him).
Also, given Andretti and Gainbridge's connections to Spire, would Spire be a team that would jump to Honda? Any idea who else would?

I think he’s preparing for a future booth job. So he is a bit more calm on track.

I’m glad they’re not racing on dirt at Bristol this spring.

Even on a Saturday afternoon the downvoter is quick to downvote. It has to be someone who posts on the MSB regularly and would be here on a Saturday afternoon.

I hope the dirt thing is about played out

Whoever it is, they're a real loser.

Same here. I missed the concrete track and the Bristol bump and run.

Truck race at Bristol was a good race.

Was hoping Kyle could have gotten closer and mix it up .

Looks like decent weather today.
Although there is a 2% chance of rain. Haha!
The good thing about it not being in dirt is that I think the vortex effect will work better.

Lot of the Cup drivers were struggling with turns 3 & 4 in qualifying yesterday. They have some sort of resin in the bottom groove (not PJ1, though) and guys kept overdriving into 3 and getting loose. Apparently this resin is not as grippy as the PJ1 was.

Think I’m going with a ford today, Blaney is the easy pick. I’ll pick Buescher.
