I was a Harvick fan. So I’ve been looking for a new guy to call my favorite. SVG is it. I think he felt the pressure. All this is new to him still. I think once he’s more accustomed to the cup series, he won’t make that mistake. He wasn’t calm and cool on that last lap like he was in Chicago today.

SVG when he gets fully acclimated is going to be a force. I like him tremendously but I am not unhappy about today because I am a big Buescher fan too.

Buescher is an easy guy to pull for. Old school type.

I think how he did today showed why he’s all but a lock for a playoff spot. He’s been to the Glen once before this weekend, though never in a NASCAR type car. Yesterday he drug that car to a top 5. Today he never truly ran lower than 3rd.
This is a track that cup drivers have thousands of laps on. Same with Sonoma. And he was half A lap from winning. He took to Sonoma like a duck to water. I think he legit could win every RC race next year… realistically he wins 2-3.

Nascar really is a circus these days. Every race is having late race cautions because they won’t police their drivers. I know Nascar was built on bumping and banging but this is different. This is flat out wrecking other drivers either by intentions or incompetence.
Its killing the sport. In the old days fans picked drivers forever and just enjoyed the races. They were the most loyal fans in any sport. Didn't matter if they finished year 30th.
Now, fans follow one driver but not the sport as much as old fans. They are not as loyal. When their drivers get knocked out or having bad races they then out. These races that Nascar is bunching up on purpose like Atlanta and then have so many wrecks are hurting them season long.
Yesterday had a great finish for 2 drivers. But many drivers got taken out or badly damaged due to drivers just wrecking the field. Late race pile drivers with no penalties.
Imagine how the race finishes with all the field able to get thru turn 1/2 without being taken out. Now you have 3 or 4 cars fighting for win and many other battles rest of pack.
I know its not a popular take but every race is ending with GWC or some late caution. And all road races are just hit anything in front of or next to you. Whats the difference between the 3 car wrecking and not getting chase vs what we all saw yesterday? Lajoi caused the first wreck but others did as well later on.

BTW, SVG races hard but clean. He can race without wrecking others. Chris too. They showed what proper racing is. Really like SVG but I wonder if when the young punks get jealous of him doing so well they might start wrecking him too. I hope not but Nascar loves turmoil and its no longer about great drivers its all about the shitshow.

I with you. Truex basically said the same thing after the race. I'm not sure I've seen another driver more ready for retirement.

He’s right there is no respect any more. There is but not many.
And you can’t hide or avoid it, just hope to get lucky. Hamlin hid in back all Atlanta and still got wrecked out. He didn’t hide yesterday and still got wrecked from Lajoi acting like first lap was last lap. Its out of hand these days.

NASCAR encouraged all of this with that “win and you’re in” bs. Bring back the pre chase days.

What makes SVG race like that is he’s so conditioned from his days in the v8 supercars of being unable to make contact. He has to think about his moves ahead of time. He races with an IQ most nascar drivers do not use. Front to back contact is not allowed in supercars. Side to side is. Go watch SVG vs Brodie Kostecki at Perth 2023. He doesn’t lunge for a gap unless it’s there.

I miss when ESPN or whoever it was carried V8 Supercars races. Those drivers could race hard and stay an inch away all race long. They penalized them if they made avoidable contact. Made the drivers better.
Nascar has had manufactured madness for so long they are afraid to stop it. Unfortunately their best viewed races are the big plate ones. But its carnage at about all tracks now.

Speed channel. I miss them.
I get to watch them through the speed sport 1 app. But I can’t record them that way.

Side note but am I the only one that is annoyed at the amount of runoff nascar allows? I’m not saying enforce track limits, but the amount of cars that leave the race track out of turn 1 at the Glen is absurd to watch.
Posted on 9/16/24 at 5:02 pm to MikeHoncho47
They have no runoff rules like F1. Only one corner at COTA.
If they put barriers up there would be more carnage.
The track is fine but they have to start putting some ethics back into the sport. Just like that punk Gibbs won his xfinity series title by wrecking others, he should have been demoted. They have cameras in every car and have the data. Start penalizing bad drivers.

You would have hated Richmond

They could just let the drivers sort it out like they did when NASCAR put on a decent show 30 years ago and quit creating pansy drivers.

I did. I don’t mind a little physicality. Takes zero talent to use the back of someone else’s car as a brake pedal. And then right hooking another car to win? No sir. He shouldn’t have left the track with the trophy.

I wish but those days are over. Chastain settled down after owner made comment. But its allowed by nascar so drivers do it. Backmarkers have nothing to lose trying to finish high by taking out anyone. So regulars do it too

“I wouldn’t even call it a mistake, I would just call it a misjudgment of where I was at.”
The great Corey Lajoie. It’s Kyle Busch’s fault for being in the same zip code as this guy.
