He and Donahue both.

There is definitely a segment of the fan base with room temp IQ's and it makes the rest of us who actually have some level of intelligence and can use deductive reasoning look bad by association.
I'm not afraid to say it.

Have you read Donohue’s autobiography? It’s not a conventional life story, he basically goes car by car of every car he drove from the start to the finish of his career, amateur to professional, and what was involved in developing them. It’s absolutely fascinating.
The chapter on bringing the Matador into NASCAR is great. He talks about how his stubbornness and coming in thinking he and the Penske team were smarter than everyone hurt them as much at the start as that first Matador’s bad aerodynamics. He said it finally dawned on him “these cats know what they’re doing” and he said he began to figure it out when he just went to some races and hung out in the garage and kept his mouth shut and just observed and learned.
BTW, he said the Matador he won Riverside with in 1973, where the disk brakes were their big advantage, had rotors from a Cadillac (biggest and heaviest they could find) and calipers from a Lola Can-Am car. It got through inspection …

Allmendinger to cup next year. Back to the 16.

I had heard of Donahue's book for decades, before I actually saw a copy, which I immediately bought. I gained a huge amount of respect for the man, doing all he did in different cars and series, at the same time.
ETA. I think the reason he wasn't listening to the NASCAR guys was because they weren't giving him engineering reasons for what they were doing. They just said, well you can't do it that way, or, we just do it that way, etc.

Kaulig can’t make a decision about what they want for their Cup team.

I’m still waiting for Trackhouse to buy a charter and announce Shane Van Gisbergen to the 97. He didn’t move here to run Xfinity.

Following up on Donohue and engineering information, Suitcase Jake Elder led a whole bunch of drivers to wins and championships. He was illiterate, couldn’t read and write. But he knew.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Mark makes a lot of sense here. I agree with him.

Speaking of Mark Martin, Adam Stern says he’s hearing of RFK expanding to 3 cars and landing the Kroger sponsorship. Preece is being named a top candidate.
Who are they getting a charter from? This is the first legit report of RFK expanding I’ve seen.

I read that Jake Elder had two lengths of twine, one for short tracks and one for big tracks. They had knots at various points on the twine. He used those strings when setting up race cars.
Waltrip said Jake just knew how to make a race car feel like it was supposed to feel.

After that big wreak he had at Daytona or Dega the guy hasn't been the same and I don't blame him. I doubt he is getting into a different cup car.

Not really nascar related but I heard on Sirius that Scott Bloomquist was killed in a plane crash . A legend on the dirt gone. Bloomquist killed

Was very sad to see the news that Bloomer passed. RIP GOAT

Damn, had a chance to watch him and that iconic #0 a few times at Batesville and Columbus...he was an absolute legend. Still remember watching the Show Me a few years ago on FLO and watching him win the B Main after losing his left front. IIRC he lost it battling for 3rd and managed to tote the left for several laps and was still passing cars.
