Admitting he wrecked Ross on purpose

Nascar has no consistency in their penalties.

He wrecked a car but said this way later in a podcast almost sarcasically (so you could infer he might have been joking therefore maybe he didn’t do it intentionally). He gets points loss plus a fine

Last year Bubba intentionally wrecked Larson on a superspeedway and put him the wall at high speed. Then gets out of his car before medical arrives. Then attacks an Asian driver on live TV. Then walks from track to pit lane. He got a 1 race rest bit no points deduction and no dollar fine.

This sport is losing it. Ratings way down. Then after Nascar lost on appeal to Hendrick they “randomly” pick 2 Hendrick cars to take back. This is supposed to be a random draw but Nascar picked them with intent in a huffy rage so its no longer random.

I am not a Hamlin supporter but this is crap. The sport needs podcasts by drivers and Nascar is saying we will monitor you 24/7 so watch what you say. That’ll get more TV viewers right?

Sad times in the sport right now. Took best track and covered with dirt to fake a dirt track. Then the race is on Easter Sunday night late? WTF

Why would Nascar go to Chicago, trying to chase woke dollars when wokesters have no desire for the sport.

There's still an appetite for the sport in this area. MJ's involvement as an owner also resonates here.

My company is Chicago based and we sponsored the #6 and #8 cars in the last few years. There's a NASCAR bar about 10 minutes from my parents' house in the suburbs. I have friends who don't know anything about motorsports, but have said it'll be awesome to see cars racing down Lake Shore Drive.

I hope the weekend is a success, and the idiot who was just elected is at least smart enough to realize he shouldn't try to scare off organizations or events that might give this broke-arse city an economic bump.

Fair retort. But will this race increase TV viewers? They already had a race up that way and then it went away. And I’m not sure sure a Nascar will race good on Chicago streets, would rather a real road course.

It works good for you so thats great, but it will be interesting to see how it goes. We took a great race (Bristol) and covered with dirt. We took a real road race and installed Chicago streets. Should have kept the real road race and real Bristol and taken away an existing clone track to do new ones.

Nascar could have kept fanbase and still found new fans if done right. If existing fans like it they will be more positive on social media (which social media didn’t exist as much 10 years ago). But they are trying hard to chase off their most loyal fans it seems. Ratings back that up too. LA has no business with a race let alone first one of year.

Vegas isn’t a superspeedway.

NASCAR handed out L1-level penalties on Thursday to the Nos. 24 and 48 Hendrick Motorsports teams in the Cup Series after last weekend’s races at Richmond Raceway.

As a result, William Byron (No. 24) and Alex Bowman (No. 48) each lost 60 driver points and five playoff points. The teams also lost 60 owner points and five playoff owner points. In addition, the team’s respective crew chiefs (Brian Campe and Greg Ives) were fined $75,000 and suspended for two points events starting April 13.

2023 All-Star Race Format Revealed

I think I like the format. I don’t like that it’s on Sunday night again, though.

Don't worry. 100 laps at Wilkesboro
will go by in the blink of an eye.

I don't disagree with this. I don't want to see Bristol covered in dirt either. I would prefer they don't start the season in Los Angeles just so they can have some half-assed E! Red Carpet event.

I acknowledge I might be overly optimistic about the Chicago race just because it's happening in my neck of the woods, but with the Joliet race off the schedule, I at least feel like NASCAR is throwing a bone to local fans like me, and doing it in a novel way.

We'll see what happens. Maybe it'll be a mess, and a bunch of rich snobs will cry about noise and traffic, and we'll never see it again. But of all the things NASCAR has tried in recent years, I'm not going to criticize them for this one yet.

NASCAR has now announced updates to the rule book that modify the appeal process.

Here are the new penalty ranges

In other words, NASCAR was offended by the Appeals Panel’s decision regarding the previous Hendrick penalties so they penalized two Hendrick teams again and then changed the powers of the Appeals Panel so that they can’t totally repeal any future penalties imposed by NASCAR.

What a joke.

If I was Rick Hendrick I'd probably just shut the teams down. They are nowhere near as profitable as they used to be, see Larson still running Hendrick Cars sponsorship, so it's not like he'd be losing much.

Nascar would certainly be losing more than Rick would.

Just the threat of doing so would likely make Nascar squirm.

Nah. Look at Rick’s business profile. It revolves around his name in Nascar. He’s like a top 5 auto dealer in the country.

Right now, he’s supposedly not profitable owning a team and raking it in at the dealerships built on his name association with the sport… If he divests from the sport, all his dealership businesses are negatively affected.

If he’s taking a million dollar loss in the sport, he’s profiting tens of millions elsewhere.

One thing owners have been arguing with NASCAR about is the lack of TV revenue going to the teams. NASCAR’s TV contract is up next year and the owners are fighting to get more revenue. Also, the current system with charters is hurting teams financially. That deal also expires next year.

You are right, teams are nowhere near as profitable as they use to be. Hendrick is the most profitable out of all the teams. Other than Larson, the rest of the drivers have sponsors that are committed to multi / long term deals. Rick Hendrick is not hurting financially.

Never put in the effort to understand this.
Which teams are hurt financially?

NASCAR has scrapped today's activity at Bristol because of weather.

I think you have that backwards. The teams are fighting to keep charters and Nascar may not want to. The charter is like a gold card to teams and helps them sell sponsorships knowing thair car will race no matter what due to charter.
