I'd love for Allen Bestwick to come back.
I still watch the end of the 2012 talladgea fall race from time to time.
It was Bestwick calling them home. It’s still exciting to this day . I think AB, Jr, and Steve Letarte would be great combo.

His call of the '01 Pepsi 400 as Junior came to the checkered still gives me chills

I'm not a motorsports guy, but looking from afar, to me his greatest legacy is safety. His death woke (sorry for the word choice) them up. I don't think that there's been a death in a NASCAR car since the icon's death.

You are correct.
All 3 major series have been fatality free

Too bad Tony fricked that up, running over that cat a few years back.

That didn’t occur in a NASCAR race.

And it wasn’t because the cockpit was unsafe

Dan Wheldon? Vegas 2011.
Posted on 2/21/23 at 2:15 pm to CHGAR
I think he’s referring to Nascar series meaning trucks , xfinity, and cup. Wheldon was in an Indy car.

Pretty sure he was referring to the 3 major NASCAR series (Cup, Xfinity, Trucks).

That was at a local short track in upstate NY IIRC.
And that kid did it to himself.

Yep. It was the weekend of the Watkins Glen cup race. The young man that was killed tested positive for drugs if I remember correctly.

Yeah I hated that it happened but the kid threw a temper tantrum on the track. It was basically suicide by racecar.
And the 4 downvoters must be those that thought Smoke committed actual murder.

So just saw this on Reddit. This is how the points would look like under the old system retroactive to last season.
Gordon would have 7 titles, Jimmie 3 as opposed to 7, Harvick would have 4 including a B2B in '15 &'16 and in '20. Shrub would still have 2, B2B in '18 & 19. Chase would of won last year.

Think it's safe to say that Gordon got screwed more than anyone by the current system.

Top five local markets for the Daytona 500 on Fox:
Knoxville
Greensboro/Winston-Salem
Greenville/Spartanburg
Charlotte
Birmingham
And yet they keep shoving LA and new cities who will never get behind it. And music that offends its core viewers and followers. If they keep going they will lose the rest of their core. And new fans are fickle and don’t follow as closely, and once they watch they will leave because they don’t understand the nuances nor have patience to watch the slower parts of race.

@NASCAR has closed on a major real-estate sale of dozens of acres of land on the site of Auto Club Speedway, per sources + public documents, part of the reason that this weekend’s action will be the last on the track’s current two-mile configuration.

Looking at public docs:
--Loan on deal to development company for the 433 acres of Auto Club Speedway property is $296,694,361
--NASCAR leases property that is part of the sale until the loan is paid or until Dec 31, 2026, whichever is earlier
New motorsports facility, approved by county in 2021, is for 90 acres of current site, surrounded by commerce center, which includes 98 acres parking
--New track at one point was 0.67-mile w/35K grandstand seats, 50K capacity. Likely will be half-mile track when finished

Doubt there will be much track activity today. Major storm system impacting California, so there will be lots of rain in Fontana today. Forecast for tomorrow is better.
