According to Corey Lajoie and Stacking Pennies, it sounds like AJ Allmendinger is going back to Xfinity.
That would make sense. I like AJ, but he’s just never been able to consistently do much in Cup. He’s done well in Xfinity, though, and could probably be a regular championship contender staying there, sort of like Allgaier has done.
With regards to Kaulig Racing, does anyone else feel like they’ve possibly overextended themselves a bit? When they started having success they rapidly grew to the point they now have 3 full time Xfinity Series teams, 2 full time Cup Series teams, and 1 part-time Cup Series team. I feel like their performance has dropped a bit this year, and I wonder if this is the reason.

I wouldn't be shocked if they moved Hemric to the 31 full-time. And made the 16 the rotational car again. What free agent can they sign that makes sense?

Unless they possibly move Chandler Smith to full-time Cup. Hemric stinks, to be honest. I know he won an Xfinity Series title, but that was when he had the best car in the field at Gibbs. Once he left Gibbs, he went back to being mediocre. I can’t imagine how mediocre he would be in the Cup Series where Kaulig’s cars aren’t the best.

There was a picture with Chris Rice shaking a hand. Looked to be Hemric's arm in the picture. I don't think it's the right move, but they whiffed on Austin Hill. I don't think they can do much better. Chandler Smith is not ready to be elevated. I can see any combo of AJ, SVG, Chandler Smith, Austin Hill, Sheldon Creed, or even Derek Kraus getting starts in that 16 car if they go back to rotating it.
Although I did read that Justin Allgaier may be going to Cup with Kaulig. I'll believe that when I see it.

Expanding on SVG from the official press release:
Trackhouse Racing and Shane van Gisbergen today (Wednesday) announced an agreement that will see the three-time Supercar champion and winner of NASCAR’s inaugural Chicago Street Race move to America to drive in a combination of races in NASCAR’s three national series in the 2024 season.
Trackhouse has agreed to build a 2024 program that will put the 34-year-old Auckland, New Zealand native in select races in NASCAR’s Cup, Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series plus some late model and other races.
(Owner Justin) Marks said Trackhouse is designing van Gisbergen’s 2024 schedule to introduce him to NASCAR.
“This is going to be a tremendous challenge for Shane but he is a tremendous driver as we have all seen,” said Marks. “Next year will be about getting him acclimated to oval track racing, superspeedways, 1.5-mile tracks and everything he has never experienced in his career. It’s obviously going to be a learning process, but we think Shane will perform quite well."

I'm excited about SVG coming to NASCAR. That's a massive W for Trackhouse and Project 91.

SVG is in for a rude awakening. I love he’s coming and like the guy. But from a purely racing perspective he will never again have so many things align just perfectly like he did in Chicago. He got practice when regulars didn’t (even tho new track). He got rain on a track hard to pass, when that type track was ideal for him. So many crashed out that might have contended. Shortened race. Fuel gamble paying off. Tight course again favoring him. Hard to power up on wet to pass him.
Whwn he raced at Indy on a more open beating/banging course he didn’t fare as well. And now he’ll be doing all types of courses. I just hope fans don’t overexpect him to win again next year. He was an awesome story and still did have to drive masterfully to win, but the learning curve will be huge.

I think he knows what he's getting into. He's bored in Australia. I almost dropped $100 on him to win Chicago, but it was a lot working in his favor. I think he will end up being the best international driver in NASCAR Cup Series history when all is said and done. Trackhouse needs to get it together, but he will have better equipment than any other big name that came to the US.

For sure. He said as much on Dale Jr's podcast. He was quite open about having a lot to learn and not wanting a full-time Cup seat yet.
He managed a top 20 in his first crack at a truck and oval, and he raved about how much fun it was. Then he followed that up with a top 10 at the Indy road course. I think he'll be fine.

Dude has driving chops. It would be an absolute miracle if he came close to winning on anything except a road course in 2024, I have zero expectations there. Watch out in 2025, though.

If you want to have a dirt race, go to a damn dirt track. Go to Eldora. It doesn’t seat but 30k but it’ll at least be a real dirt race. Of course these cars ain’t exactly suited for it LOL.

Led the race and got a top 10 finish in his second race.
That's faring pretty well. He will struggle on the ovals for a while but he will be a threat at every road course and Martinsville. You watch.

Seems like a downgrade for Kaulig..

Underwhelming for sure. But if they can’t get Austin Hill, who else could they get? I’m just glad it wasn’t Ty Dillon.

I forgot who said it but someone this week called Spire “The Property Brothers” of nascar. That’s a pretty accurate description of them.

Dale Jr. is running pretty well tonight in the Xfinity Series race at Bristol. 3 JRM cars just crashed together, though.

Jr. currently leading.
