There is some major standing water in some places on the track.

Its a street course not designed for racing and moving water off track all the way around. This is just a dog and pony show for elites and social media engagement folks. Notice how every driver has been given marching orders fo say nice things about Chicago in every interview. Its just for show. Passing is almost impossible unless you move someone but with recent penalties drivers might be afraid. The wrecks are due to narrow track and corner walls which these drivers never race before. So many places would have been better.

The concrete barriers won’t allow water to drain. What a disaster, no one thought about having drain sections at bottom of the barriers.

Daytona gets rain but its usually in/out fast and dries quickly. Plus with banked racetrack it can get racing faster.

The locals will be pissed if moved to Monday. And hotels are expensive for anyone who stayed close by.

Lol a safety worker is out there cutting holes in the banners on the walls to allow water to drain.

Lol! I mean the trucks driving around are plowing through 8 inch deep water making waves. Thats the other problem with city street races, they can’t delay races to a work day because of the need to open roads to public. Designed racetracks don’t have that issue.

IMO there are people who are rooting for this to be a failure

Just all to say "see, I told you so!"

The best story to come out of this weekend is Shane van Gisbergen. They are used to close driving side by side and narrow corners.

The heaviest of the rain is finally moving out over Lake Michigan. Maybe things will be alright for the Cup race this afternoon.

Despite not reaching halfway, NASCAR has called the Xfinity Series race official and Cole Custer wins. He led all of the 25 completed laps.

LOL! What they really meant: Since we picked a large city and inconvenienced tons of citizens we cannot move race to Monday and are changing long established rules to call it a day. If you bought tickets and hotels to Xfinity tough luck. Please buy some merch on the way out

Yeah, Jeff Gluck pointed out that there is nothing in the rule book that addresses an option of calling the race official before reaching the halfway point.

They made up a new rule because this was a bad idea to begin with and they don’t want to piss off workers on Monday work drives or sight seeing vacationers.

As it was how many of the laps were green? And what about those who pitted assuming race resumes based on existing rules.

The only way to fix it now is to award no points. They can still give out purse and call it a day but don’t issue any points for the race.

When you write the rule book, you can amend it on the fly.

That’s their MO for 75 years now. Big Bill France did it unhesitatingly and unashamedly.

I figure they just wanted to get Xfinity done and gone and over with and concentrate on the main event this afternoon.
