Supercars only run about once a month, would love to see their top drivers come over here and take on the roval against Nascar's best.
Would be great.

Elliott knocks the wall down trying to keep up with the Aussie.

That inside wall is going to claim more victims. Just like the swimming pool at Monaco

I’m going to watch, I have always thought a street race would be interesting. If it’s carnage, it’s carnage. The thing that bothers me is not that it’s in Chicago, that’s a great city with issues that can be found in certain spots in every big city that gets dissed by people who simply don’t like cities. (I have actually vacationed in cities and love it; going to the beach is like being in hell for me although I do enjoy the mountains, been in the Georgia mountains many times.)
What bothers me is that IMO this is a publicity stunt to impress Fortune 500 companies and not something that is going to place any lasting roots in that site.
NASCAR will die if it doesn’t move away from the past. I’ve not seen yet that they have a cohesive plan for doing so, sometimes it’s like they’re throwing merde against the wall. And the problem is that racing in the US, not just in NASCAR, has always been a place for the wealthy as far as it’s players, but the core fan base has always been just plain schmoes.

Fair post.
We are vacationing/camping in the Georgia Smokies (Chatsworth and Ellijay) in a couple of weeks. I love Ellijay. It's my favorite town in the entire state other than Hiawassee.

My wife and I honeymooned in a place above Chatsworth that unfortunately isn’t there anymore, Cohutta Lodge.

I've heard of it.
We are doing Ft.Mountain State Park and then an Airbnb east of Ellijay.

Love how a post about vacation and relaxing gets fricking downvoted. Some of you people can EAD.

I will say that NASCAR has been very present around town in the weeks leading up to the race.
And by that, I mean they had drivers visit Lurie Children's Hospital, Bubba hosted a "block party" on the South Side, the White Sox and Cubs each had NASCAR nights, and NASCAR and CPS partnered for some kind of education curriculum. Hell, the Menards by my house raffled off VIP tickets to meet Blaney, and Gibbs' 54 car was parked at the Wal-Mart by my parents for pics. That's just off the top of my head.
People around town and in the suburbs have definitely been talking about it, whether it's been good, bad, or indifferent. We'll see if any roots actually take hold, but it has been a good faith effort from NASCAR IMO. I can't wait to get down there tomorrow.

It’s time for my yearly I miss watching them race at Daytona on 4th of July weekend post.
I miss it. Not knocking Chicago, but Daytona this weekend is tradition.

I’m hoping it’s a success. Sincerely,
If I had a genie’s lamp and could make anything in the world happen, one of the things I would do is summon up the cars of the mid- to late ‘70s, and those drivers, and send them over to the old Nurburgring in Germany, the 17-mile one with like 170 different turns/corners. It wouldn’t be a street course, although I think that course used actual roads. That would take the sport back to the old moonshine running roots.

Caution for lightning. Means at least 30 minutes of stoppage.
