Fast 6:

1. Colton Herta (Andretti) 1:06.3096
2. Graham Rahal (Rahal) 1:06.3528
3. Kyle Kirkwood (Andretti) 1:06.3693
4. Alex Palou (Ganassi) 1:06.4166
5. Christian Lundgaard (Rahal) 1:06.6277
6. Scott Dixon (Ganassi) 1:06.9281

All Hondas. Herta pipped Graham for pole by less than a tenth of a second.

Pagenaud was not cleared to race this morning after his crash yesterday. If you haven't seen it, here it is:

Conor Daly will be his replacement. Conor gets a lifeline! Although it will be hard to impress starting from the back of the grid.

Might have some tricky damp conditions to spice up the race?

If it’s indeed damp I am sure we won’t get a clean break when this race goes green

Hey Auburn, how are you feeling about the team this year with the new coach? Are you coming out to Berkeley?

WTH? The TV guide said pre-race until the top of the hour! It started a little early.

Very happy to see Graham qualify well. He needed a break.

Townsend Bell tweeted about Rahal and Herta being on the front row, with a pic of their dads from back in the day. It was pretty clever.

They’ve really cut down in the intrusive commercial breaks so far. I’m sure there are some to come, but I’m enjoying.

Hondas in the first 7 positions, then two Penskes.

Welp, there are the damn commercials that take us completely away from the action.

Palou takes the lead on the overcut, but he's on a different strategy, primary then alternate, while most of the leaders went out on alternates first. Now that he's on alternates, he is building a big gap, over 6 seconds so far. But he'll have to do his next pit earlier than the guys behind him.

Graham dropped a lot of places after the pit, but I'm not sure how many of the guys in front of him still have to do their first pit. Edit: Graham dropped from P2 to P7, and he's still in P7 after several laps, so it doesn't look good.

Wait, somehow Pato is in P4 after starting P25. He must have pitted by now, that's a remarkable climb.

Edit: Confusing, O'Ward did his 2nd pit stop way early it seems, and he's dropped back to P14.

After 20 laps, Herta is closing the gap on Palou, his reds are wearing down. Now Palou has to decide when to pit...

Edit: Weird, the gap went from 4.5s back up to 7.5s. Palou's reds should be slowing down compared to Herta's blacks. I think this means Palou has the race in the bag as long as the next pit stop goes well.

Edit 2: The gap was up to 8.5s when Palou came in to pit.

Herta pits the next lap, the live timing now says he's 30s behind Palou? WTH?

Pato is up to P2, but he has at least 10 laps more on his tires than everyone around him. I think he's on a 3-pit strategy, I don't think he has the fuel to make it to the end even if he wanted to ride those tires out to the end.

Rahal with the tire issue on pit road ended his shot @ a top 5. Hopefully he can still get a top 10. — the 8-10 seconds lost would’ve had him come out 4th or 5th after running long.

Palou is just unreal. Guy has learned so much from Dixon + his skill, he’s making the points race a runaway.

After the same number of pit stops for everyone, pole sitter Herta is in P11, and the other front row starter Rahal is in P8. It all went so wrong.

Oh, it says Herta has done 3 pit stops. I guess I missed something.

Palou has an 8s gap on Dixon, O'Ward does his 3rd stop, an aggressive strategy to rise up from his P25 starting position. He comes back out around P9, so it worked!
