Palou to the lead. Don’t write off Newgarden in 3rd. Dude has a way of closing hard.
Oh, Herta has to save fuel. They were pitting too early and screwed up.
Yeah Palou vs Newgarden would/will be a great battle.

Palou is increasing his gap to Newgarden. Looks like there won't be a battle to the finish.
Palou is now dominating the championship.

Palou ran away from everyone. Strong.
He was in a lawsuit trying to leave Chip a year ago. Now rumors are that he wants to stay and not go to McLaren after all. We’ll see.

Palou with the comfortable win.
I think he should stay with Ganassi until McLaren guarantees him an F1 seat. He tried to sign with McLaren last year with McLaren intending to keep him in IndyCar for the time-being. I think he's better off winning championships with Ganassi until an F1 team wants to sign him.

Oh, I haven't heard this. But yeah I gave my opinion in the above post.

Herta faded to P5 at the end, all because he pitted one lap too early?
Hinchcliffe speculating that they might have short-fueled him.

That Herta fade was odd. Perhaps Marshall over at racer.com will report exactly what happened there.

Wow, Grosjean with yet another unforced error. Drops a wheel off the track braking for a corner and spins himself off the track and stalls.
One has to wonder if he keeps his ride after this year. I like him but hes making horrible decisions. Early year it wasn’t his fault but lately it has been and taken him out of top 5 chances. Had a promising start to year too

Chip Ganassi Racing has confirmed that Takuma Sato will drive the #11 car in the remaining three oval races at Iowa and Gateway. Before the start of the season it was announced that Sato would drive all of the oval races in the #11 car, and rookie Marcus Armstrong from F2 would drive the road and street courses. But then after Sato crashed out at Texas, the scuttlebutt morphed into Sato only being guaranteed the Texas and Indy 500 races. Sato finished P7 at the Indy 500. And now, Ganassi felt the need to announce that Sato would indeed drive all of the ovals this year. Marshall Pruett called it a "non-update update."
Aside from winning the Indy 500 twice, Sato has a pole position at Iowa in 2011, won at Gateway in 2019, and won pole for the 2nd race of the Gateway double-header in 2020, so keeping him in the car makes sense.
Ganassi confirms Sato for remaining IndyCar oval races

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway followed through and the lady whose car got smacked by the loose wheel at the Indy 500 now has a new car.
The car that was hit was a Chevy Cruze. She now has a new Chevy Equinox. Nice upgrade and she says this is her first-ever brand new car. And good PR for IMS considering how badly that loose wheel could have gone.

Pagenaud took a hard tumble in practice today
Posted on 7/1/23 at 1:49 pm to Rig
Pagenaud was not cleared for qualy, which starts now on Peacock. They didn't have a car ready anyway. They are taking Castroneves's Indy 500 car and re-building it for Pagenaud for tomorrow.
Pagenaud's in-car view of the crash:

If Pagenaud is not cleared to race, Conor Daly will fill in. He has started sitting in on team meetings.

Wow, Pato O'Ward screwed up badly. Caused a red flag. That means his TWO fastest lap times will be discarded. His 3rd fastest lap time has to get him out of Round 1 of qualifying. Fat chance. He's starting near the back.

Round 1, Group 1: Pato is starting P25 tomorrow.
Another championship contender, Josef Newgarden, starts P15, and Alexander Rossi starts P13.
Round 1, Group 2: Former championship contender Romain Grosjean starts P14.
I like IndyCar's Round 1 group qualifying format. I believe the groups are randomly created at every race, so you can end up in a fast group and easily end up in the bottom half of the grid.

Well, this is a bit of a shocker. Two of Team Rahal's drivers have made the Fast 6 at their home track. Graham and Christian Lundgaard are in. They've been having such a mediocre year, it doesn't compute.
Remember Graham won at Mid-Ohio in 2015 wearing an Ohio State football themed helmet.
