You're right. Great track maybe we will get some rockets launching for entertainment.

quote:Exactly, I don't get why mandates are needed.
Apparently the curbs are causing the tire issue. Instead of mandating 3 stops just let them go and the track limits issue will solve itself. Keep going over the curbs and you'll lose your tires.
Go over the kerbs, go to faster, wear out tires faster.
Or avoid the kerbs, go a bit slower but having longer tire life.
Drivers can pick a strategy, what's the issue?

It seems that the tires will explode before they fall off in performance.
Something like 2018 there was the same issue because teams were supposedly turning the tires backwards and unwinding them. Drivers never felt degradation, the tires would just come apart/blow up

Forced 3 stop strategy… not saying I’m for it, but at least it may make things interesting.

Pirelli will limit drivers to 18 laps per set of tyres at today’s F1 Qatar Grand Prix.
A three-stop pitstop strategy will not be enforced, however with the 57-lap distance and only 18 laps permitted per tyre set, it is inevitable that each driver will pit three times.

Does it say they have to switch compound still?
Not sure anyone has 4 sets of softs. Or would be able to run 3 stints at 18 laps after what we saw yesterday

Those softs looked terrible yesterday. Had it not been for the safety cars, they weren't making it past a dozen laps. When they dropped off, the fell off a fricking cliff.

Does it say they have to switch compound still?
quote:
A mandatory limit of 18 laps of total tyre life per set will be imposed.
The life of already used tyres will be taken into consideration.
The FIA and Pirelli will communicate to the teams the remaining available laps for each set of used tyres at their disposal for the race and the criteria used to calculate that number.
There is no direct mandate for at least three tyre-change pitstops during the race, however this will be a consequence of the above guidelines should the race run its entire race distance.
Any car deemed to have exceeded the tyre life lap limit will be reported to the Stewards as being run in an unsafe condition.

Are there any pics from the used tires from yesterday?
Posted on 10/8/23 at 9:29 am to ell_13
Haven't seen any just this from the FIA:
quote:
Due to the frequency of Safety Car interventions in yesterday’s Sprint, the tyre data available for analysis by Pirelli was insufficient to add to that already undertaken following previous track sessions.
In some cases, tyres that were analysed from the Sprint did show the initial onset of the separation in the sidewall between the topping compound and the carcass cords of the tyres.

Perhaps they should allow teams an extra set or two of new ones if they’re so worried.
Posted on 10/8/23 at 9:39 am to ell_13
They actually receive one set less for sprint weekends so if they are concerned, give every team another set of mediums for the race
Posted on 10/8/23 at 9:58 am to UncleFestersLegs
With all the football and baseball yesterday ( Rangers
) I just finally got around to watching the sprint race.
That track needs to come off the circuit. It is needlessly dangerous that the track might cause the tires to come apart and the cars that hit the run off areas have no chance of reentering the race as these seem to hold the cars like glue.
Oh, and Perez is getting worse each week. WTF has happened to him?

The wreck yesterday wasn't his fault.
But the fact that he is consistently starting 10 places back from Max puts him in those situations with mid-field teams and the cluster that takes place is his damn fault.

Pirelli set a limit of 18 laps max on tires.
Who has the most mediums left? Will anyone run the hard?

Most teams will need to use hards at some point.
