Now it goes to Formula 1, who are expected to shoot it down.

F1 is not a serious series if they shoot down legitimate additions to the grid while continuing to run de facto junior teams out there who have no intention of ever competing for a championship. Full stop.

40% less downforce is the estimate

"Challenge accepted," said every engineering department. I bet they show up to testing with 10-15% less downforce, and then get it down less than that by the end of the 2027 season.

On the Andretti thing, FOM would be a fool to reject them, but I wouldn't put it past them.

Seems like a good way to save face for his son.

Assuming the team stays separate from the Aston Martin cars.

The value of a F1 team will never be higher than right now- Would be a smart move and most likely double Lawrence’s net worth

I predict F1 and other big league racing will see a contraction in terms of interest and money around 2026-2027

these things normally go in 5-8 year circles (see Nascar)

New info coming out in the 2026 Formula. Cars 4" narrower and 8" shorter. 40% less downforce is the estimate. Although we will see how that does.

hopefully that means refueling … i expect laptimes to drop significantly

i wouldn’t be shocked if Indycar and f1 are about the same speed on road courses by then since the indycars will be producing around 1000 hp+ next year with the new engine regs

Listened to the Race podcast, they aren’t sure how committed Renault is to keep going with Alpine. Maybe they get out now while the team is highly valued. Maybe Andretti buys.

if this was fall 2021 and team values were in the $250-500M valuation ( Andretti was rumored to have had a LOI to buy Sauber for $250 before they re-neged)

Now team values are $1bn-$2bn

I dont think Andretti has that kind of scratch

I connected a friend who runs his family’s company to Andretti Global to sponsor part of a car in next year’s Indycar season and from what I have heard from the inside they are committed to building the operation from scratch

Refueling would be great, anything they can do to add more variables, and make races less predictable is good.

Agree, and bring back different tire manufacturers while you're at it...

that would require opening the field up to 13 teams and going back to a euro-centric schedule- drop the middle east races and 3rd world cash grabs

Also dont tell me the bullshite that the tracks are at capacity- They are longer than almost all the Indycar tracks and Indycar fields can reach almost 30 on road and street circuits

Additionally larger fields during practice and quali require way more strategy managing gaps and increased traffic

it would improve the racing drastically

Make F1 like the 1995 season again

Michelin won't do it. They said they'd want to make a tire that can last the entire race which they've stated they can easliy do.

quote:

In conversation with The Drive's editor-in-chief Kyle Cheromcha, Michelin CEO Florent Menegaux explained that while a return to F1 is always on the table, the French tire company simply cannot agree with how the series relies on tire degradation to improve "the show."

Too much reliability these days for those types of seasons.

Not to mention I want incoming teams to actually compete and not get lapped 20 times like back in those days.

Expanding teams to 4 or 5 cars like Indy could be explored, but that sounds terrible as well.

Pirelli can make a tire last the whole race, too. It's just they're paid not to because it's taken the place of fuel as the dynamic component of a race

The problem is how they "pit" the cars now. The garages open right onto the pit lane and they have to wheel them inside to do anything with them including fuel. And both team cars use the same pit stall.

Supposedly all of the tracks have, or have room for, 26 garages as that is the actual limit in the rules/Concorde Agreement. (I don't recall which but it is spelled out)
