Horner called Marko early in the test to say how well Dan was performing which sealed the AT drive apparently.
"
Sources have told ESPN that Horner called Marko an hour or so into it just to tell him just how impressive the pace was,’ their report states.
‘Marko called back shortly afterwards to tell Horner he had just fired De Vries."

This Marko dude is my favorite thing about F1
Posted on 7/12/23 at 4:28 pm to shel311
The dude is cutthroat F1 personified, if you can't perform you're out. He comes off like an a-hole but I can guarantee you one thing, if you ask Helmut Marko a question he'll give you the answer that's on his mind, you might not like it though.

helmut hired nyck off one race at monza, then hires daniel off a tire test.
i am surprsied he still has this much power after Mateschitz died.

The wrong person died.
Marko is terrible for F1. Dude kills driver careers for sport.

Marko is a POS that stifles competition and runs his little fiefdom to control 20% of the grid for the benefit of 1 driver.
Anyone who wants to see more competitive teams can thank people like Marko for making sure that doesn't happen.

De Vries killed his own career by being 3 tenths slower than Tsunoda.
Who no one thinks is a world beater.

Yep. F1 being such bitches about adding more teams while being okay with this is ridiculous.

I don't think Nyck would have been bounced had RIC not been in the wings.
Nyck's career ended at 9 races because Marko thinks he has a better option.

Absolutely. But they decided that de Vries has no future with Red Bull, so this incredible opportunity presented itself to be able to evaluate both Danny and Yuki, and to put more pressure on Perez. My ideal scenario is for Danny or Yuki to get promoted to Red Bull next year, the other stays at AT, and Lawson fills the empty seat.
The even more ideal scenario for me is for Yuki to get promoted to Red Bull, and next year's AT driver pairing is Liam Lawson and Alex Palou. Between these four drivers and three seats, I prefer that the old guy gets pushed out in favor of new blood in the series.

I kinda want Palou to stay in Indycar now.

All the Palou talk just doesn't seem realistic. Not sure if it is true, but the word was he had to be signed by an F1 before the end of July.
