Haas pain train incoming… Hulk currently 3rd with 2 min left in P2. Will end up P15 in actual race

Was a strange P2. Seemed like no one really tried a quali-sim.
Might be everyone testing their upgrades

I admittedly started paying closer attention in 2021, but was Merc this dominant during Hamilton’s run? Like a foregone conclusion?

Here's Rosberg's race by race results: LINK
He finished top 4 all but 3 races, and 1 was as DNF. Hamilton finished top 4 all but 4 races with 2 DNFs.
If my count is right, not counting the DNFs, both Merc's were on the podium all but 6 times.

As much so; maybe at times more.
2014 RIC drove his arse off and still ended up 80pts out of 3rd. 2nd place was Rosberg. ETA: Merc had 5 retirements total for the season
2016 was a race of two cars with Merc having almost a 300pt advantage.
A couple years ago Paddy Lowe (Techinlcal Director in those time) did an interview and said him and Toto used to argue over the radio over how much to turn up the Merc engine. Toto wanted to win, but not by much. He was concerned the FIA would step in and handicap them.

I'm gonna enjoy it either way but it does kinda stink coming into F1 after the epic season/finish a couple of seasons ago and my new fandom seems to be coming when RB will be dominant for the next 3 or so years or whatever. I'm not sure if things can change quickly but it seems you just kinda know here that they're about to go on a run.
Like I said, it won't drive me away, I'll still enjoy it, but it would definitely be more enjoyable as a new fan if it were highly contested at the top.

Red Bull before Merc was almost as dominate. Merc/Mclaren could throw up some challenges at times, and win some poles, but RBR was just too strong then.
Midfield has been really competitive the last two years, and other that Monaco which was strategic, most everyone can keep pace with the leaders.

In 2006 I started making tables and charts to track the F1 seasons. They give an instant overview of how a season went. The progression chart sometimes shows a driver dominating the season, and it sometimes shows that it came down to the last race. There were some incredible seasons, like 2010 and 2007! And of course there's 2008, which is becoming more infamous as Felipe Massa considers a lawsuit to claim the championship.

Sergeant redflags P3 and then the rain comes.
Doesn't look like we're getting anything in P3

Considering they are saying the chance of a wet race is high I'm surprised no one is out running inters.
If I was a midfield team I'd roll the dice and put a wet setup on the car to try and catch some lightning.
eta-They did give the teams an extra set of inters but I don't recall how many set of those they have. Might not be able to burn them up in practice.

Very chatty. Cars weren't on the track for 1/2 the session or more.

The Williams floor is a bit...plain. They do know it's a ground effects car, right?

Ferrari didn't come out right away with rain coming... I swear
