YOURADHERE: I’m about 99% positive they didn’t actually sell out. Ticket reps were still contacting people I know only just a couple weeks ago trying to push tickets still.

Sounds like a fake sell-out. The promoter himself buys up the remaining tickets, calls it a sell-out to try to stoke late demand, then floods the secondary market to try to get rid of the tickets that way. Better to get rid of them at a reduced price than not have a sell-out at face-value prices.

As of April 28th…..

The Miami Grand Prix Has Not Sold Out Yet

If they raise prices once again this thing is going to flop hard.

this Twitter reply to Will Buxton bitching about people bitching about the driver introductions really nails it IMO:
quote:

Will, I want you to understand this from my perspective as a long-time, very serious Formula 1 fan, who is also an American.

To me, this was embarrassing and cringeworthy today, and I’m going to tell you why.

Why don’t we see things like this at Spa? Silverstone? Suzuka? Because it’s America. And every time Formula 1 comes here for a grand prix, something embarrassing happens, whether it’s celebrities rudely blowing off Martin Brundle/saying something absurd during the grid walk, or some ridiculous unnecessary spectacle put on by the grand prix organizers.

American F1 fans already have this stigma about us that we are:

1.) Superficial, don’t understand the regulations, aren’t familiar with the history, and really care more about the spectacle of it all than the sport itself.
2.) Only became fans of Formula 1 because of Drive to Survive.

Things like what happened today only serve to reinforce this stigma. We didn’t need the drivers to walk out like NBA players, and neither did fans from the rest of the world. It was a waste of valuable minutes before the grand prix that could have been devoted to something relevant. We just want serious, professionally-conducted pre-race procedures like all the other rounds on the calendar. We want to be taken seriously. Today didn’t help.

Nailed it. They Nascar’d the pre race just like Nascar Cali race 1. What a disaster it was. 3 ring circus act.

Formula 1 tweeted about it excitedly. Gets slammed in the comments.

I was getting emails up until a couple of days before trying to get me to buy tickets. Last year they sold out before the presale was over.

?? | Mercedes are still unsure why the W14 isn't fast enough, says Toto Wolff:

"Our car is P1/P2 in some practice sessions, and then P6/P13 in qualifying.

"That's unacceptable."

Surely Mercedes hasn't been dumb enough to think their practice results are indicative of actual race pace? Surely not.

I wouldn't mind it being a night race, but imagine it would be a Saturday night race

London is 5hrs ahead so they aren't likely to go for that.

Huh? Teams were as much if not more dominant then as well. McLaren dominated, then Williams dominated and for a short time, Ferrari dominated. It was literally exactly like it is now, sans DRS.
it was much worse. Only 3 to 4 cars max on the lead lap regularly. Anyone who doesn't believe it go watch the races on YouTube. I do miss the tire wars and fuel strategies though

Alpine has long been a trainwreck. This is just on par for them.

What in the world. That's going backwards imo. Otmar isn't the issue.

If Alpine lets Otmar go, McLaren needs to hire him yesterday. Not sure Zak’s ego would allow it, tho.

You could see the writing on the wall for Otmar after after his CEO publicly raked him over the coals last week, but I did not see Binotto being the replacement.
