Big question on how they handle parc ferme.
Imagine they enter parc ferme after the friday quali, which sort of sucks. Let the teams change engine modes or even engines for the sprint. Let them race.

F1's new sprint format has been approved
- Friday qualifying sets Sunday grid, Saturday standalone
- Saturday qualifying (Q1 - 12 mins, Q2 - 10 mins, Q3 - 8 mins) called 'sprint shootout' and sets sprint grid
- Sprint shootout mandatory tyres: Q1 and Q2 medium, Q3 soft
F1 continues to lose its soul and descend into circus.

Although, TBH I like the idea of fewer practice sessions, might shake up the field a little bit if a team goes in the wrong direction or if they have an accident or technical glitch that cuts into practice time. Also I like Jor Jor's idea of a one-hot-lap shootout.

I'm still waiting to hear more info on how soon after the sprint shootout the sprint will actually be.
Combined, the 2 events should take about an hour on Saturday, but I can see whichever ESPN channel it is on switching away because they weren't ready for the new format...or the break between them.
ESPN's guide still shows a 1 hour FP2 and a 1 hour sprint on Saturday...

I would imagine the time windows stay the same. Broadcast windows aren't going to move. FP2 with just be sprint quali

I would too...I just saw commentary online that "everything will just take an hour now". They might have meant "an hour combined"...

Aren’t they doing quali for sprint in the same format? That’s an hour alone and then the sprint races are close to 30 min, with the other stuff, that’s an hour.

What’s the point system for the sprint race?

I don't get the reasoning behind this. Is it supposed to be more exciting for the the fans? Is the shootout actual racing or will they still basically be making individual laps? I'm definitely not a fan of making it worth championship points.

Liberty trying to jam pack more entertainment to sell.
Scared it is drifting to NASCAR stages, competition cautions, and playoffs.

I posted in last years thread, but the sprints should be reversed grid based off prior race results.

We don't have tickets for this year but I'd go to both of those shows.

Avid hater of the sprint races checking in

I'll still watch, and I'll still give the new format a shot, but I doubt it swings my hatred any.

We went last year. Awesome trip. Beautiful city and great track. We ended up in the grandstands at the start/finish line for the 3 days. Tickets were very reasonable, especially compared to the US races. I would do it every year if possible.
And give yourselves a couple of extra days in Montreal. It really is an awesome city.

Still available.
Went last year and stayed real conservative on plans. Stayed downtown, walked back from the track once, got screwed on flight drama.
Doing it again this year and looking to stay further out to save some money on hotels. Flights are pretty pricey, but you can fly into Burlington and drive the rest the way.
As for the race, it was great. Lines out are long, no way around that. Weather was amazing, people are great. Didn't see anywhere I would recommend general admission though.
