Race was wild. Very entertaining. Just wish the race would’ve finished with actual racing other than dodgy FIA decisions. Completely don’t get why Sainz was awarded the 5 sec. Penalty if the lap didn’t count. I guess just due to fact he still caused a crash and some punishment was necessar.
If they didn’t penalize Saintz then all drivers would wreck others in late race red restarts knowing they keep their spot

It's not his fault his team pitted him a lap before a red flag.
It was his fault he smashed into a wall though.

F1 should have called the race after that wreckfest last restart. What did they think would happen.
It should have ended under yellow and only the absurd would have howled. Common sense, end under yellow and everyone goes home.

Agree. It helped HUL but still, the ending reminded me of Nascar type stuff and I hope F1isn’t trying to copy them. It cost owners a big bill to have that last restart.

Seems like a tad bit of an overreaction to insinuate his first misstep of the year 3 races in indicates he only appeared good because of Mick. Especially considering he was the better Haas driver the last two races.

Just finished the replay. Eff ESPN. Went to commercial at lap 56. Came back and the race was rolling restart on lap 58. The missed the entire standing restart, had no clue what happened to those two laps or why Sainz was given a 5 second penalty.

Oh I agree. They should have at least waited until everyone passed the next timing line before calling a red flag (apparently some cars passed it and some did not). Sometimes you have to wave a red flag immediately because of dangerous conditions, but that's not what happened here.
Nascar does this all the time as well. Throwing the red flag a few seconds later would have had zero impact on safety and we wouldn't have had 45 minutes of bullshite.
btw-FIA threw out Haas' protest because the race director said he didn't have time to follow the rules.
Obviously that is not how they worded it, but that is what he claimed. Which is also bullshite because they sat around for almost an hour while the RD and stewards apparently had their thumbs up their arse.

You missed the bs, if you wanted to experience all that you could have last night. You're way better off though.

Im not sure I have the mental capacity to follow everything, so Ill ask the smarter people in this thread:
If the FIA needs to use timing markers, could they have used the last timing marker and assess Sainz penalty? That would reorder the starting grid for the last restart and finish. Drivers jocking for position within 5 seconds of another under rolling start is just bizarre

Did the race director not think a standing restart with 2 laps left would be a clusterfrick, seems like they should have just ended under yellow instead of trying to get Hamilton a win

What a clusterfrick of a "race." It all started with that first red flag, which robbed us of pit strategy. 2nd red flag was total bullshite. Sometimes a race ends under yellow, and F1 needs to be okay with that.
Same feeling. Such a cheap attempt at drama.
Lol at Alonso getting special treatment two weeks in a row, all the cars were well on their way.

All the bullshite of the first two races, and McLaren is sitting at 5th in the Constructors. You love to see it.

And just when you thought it was over.
Boom.
Another hour.
Boom.
Another hour.

I love late-race, standing restarts.

I was like there is 3 laps left in the race and it says we have an hour left….

Part of me is glad I fell asleep and didn't watch that play out in real time. Would have been pissed.
