Don’t disagree with you one bit. Again, I think there should’ve been a fine and a probation. But he was never going to lose his ride or get banned for six months or even life like the yahoos on Twitter were screeching.
He screws up again, such things come into the discussion. So it’s entirely up to him whether he gets his caca together and grows up and learns a few things … including the undeniable truth that “I never lift” is a good way to get yourself and someone else killed … or messes this up.

Was he still pissed because Larson called him him N word during I-racing?
Never happened. Kyle called his buddy who was there with him that with a hot mic while they were waiting on other drivers to join the race. While there are obvious problems with a white asian driver using that word so freely in conversation it was not directed at a black person but a white guy.
I agree with your other points, but think behind closed doors between sponsors, owners, manufacturer, and NASCAR it was made pretty clear to watch the car this weekend and think about how you feel watching it. Pull anything like this again and this will be the rest of your racing career as a spectator not a driver.

Every time someone wrecks him they are are gonna say “I never lift”.
Posted on 10/19/22 at 11:16 am to OU Guy
Only fools say “I never lift.”
Hell even Dale Sr. knew there were times you had to lift.
1986 Winston 500 … Bobby Allison was leading but Dale Sr. got inside him off four coming to the flag with one of his patented “I’m coming through, you better get out of the way” runs. And Bobby held his ground and Dale Sr. considered that at 200-plus friggin’ MPH (in those days) discretion was the better part of valor and lifted and conceded the race to Bobby.
And that was the last lap going for the win, not two-thirds of the race remaining like Sunday.
Bobby said in the press box afterward “He knows better than to try that with me,” which I thought was hilarious and badass.
The difference is that drivers in those days had respect for each other and understood there would be more races down the road if any scores needed to be settled.

Oh, let's be clear. The penalties to the 4 car had nothing to do with the car and EVERYTHING to do with Harvick's criticism on the new car. You still really think it was a "random" inspection that got them back to the R&D center?
100% agree

Agree. Back then there were way better and more short tracks to pay drivers back. Didn’t see as many wrecks on the bigger tracks (1.5 and up).
One thing that to me ruined racing was radial tires. Put these drivers in rigid plus skinnier tires and now they have to really drive. IMO there is too much grip nowadays.
Thats how you also fix restrictor races, skinnier tires require them to slow down in corners and then can get rid of restictors.

AJ Foyt did a great interview with the late Robin Miller a few years back and they got to talking about stock cars and he said those cars were frickin’ hard to drive back when he won Daytona. This was before the new car but AJ said “They got those sonsabitches pinned so hard to the track (with downforce and big spoilers) these days I don’t see how it’s possible for anyone to lose it.”

Rusty Wallace at Talladega would disagree.

Dale was the first to see Rusty at the hospital IIRC. They were best friends but man did they have some battles.
That wreck single-handedly cost Rusty his 2nd title in '93.

Iirc …Rusty said Dale came to see him at the car . Pretty sure it was there.

I know I am going to sound like a hypocrite but IMO that was “just one of them racing deals.” Dale tried to slingshot, Rusty admitted (I can provide the link to his quote) he threw a block, Dale touched him and Rusty flew. I don’t think Dale tried to maliciously send him airborne.

This is the correct take.
Dale felt horrible. Rusty wasn't even mad about it. He told the story about that wreck and Dale visiting him at the hospital on an episode of the Dale Junior Download about 2 or 3 years ago. The stories Rusty had. Him and Dale were thick as thieves.

I have heard that Rusty went to the hospital after Dale’s fatal crash and pretty much collapsed when he got the news. Tony Stewart too, he was there getting checked out after his wreck.

This is the first time I've seen this but I can absolutely believe it w/as close as they were.

I dont think it was intentional either just hard racing . Dale was the original one that “ didn’t lift”.
Thats sad. His death affected the whole sport. Schrader still won’t talk about it.

After seeing what he saw when he looked inside Dale's car you can see why. I just can't imagine.
He was on the DJD about a year or so ago. That moment when Junior and Kenny talk about that moment is powerful.

I can’t imagine looking in that car and then getting back in one the next week.

I think that story was in Leigh Montville’s biography of Earnhardt which I got from the library but don’t own. I just checked Jay Busbee’s biography called Earnhardt Nation and it confirms that Rusty was there and he told the author that’s the moment he decided to start winding things down.

There are a lot of arteries at the base of the skull. I don’t think I need to say anything else.

SteelerBravesDawg that story was in DW’s second book, “Sundays Will Never Be the Same.” He said Rusty came running in asking how Dale was, DW told him, he said Rusty started “swaying and crying” and DW’s pal Big Andy grabbed Rusty and steadied him against the wall.
