I swear he had a win pulled in that time period.

Harvick was DQ'd in 2018 but he was able to keep the win. But he got no points.

Imagine something like this happening in the final race of the season.

Sure, but that doesn't mean it isn't a problem that they need to figure out a solution for. You have to find a way to keep illegal cars off the track entirely. Taking away wins ruins the credibility of the sport. I understand its on the teams to follow the rules, but 1) we all know none of them do, at least not to the letter and 2) people don't want to watch a sport then have to figure out who won hours after the fact or even the next day.

But they did do something about it they took the win away. That will help prevent others from doing it.

Do you remember when they had the room of death at track and teams were missing quali due to long inspections? Massive labor on both sides.

Nascar and teams worked together over the past few years to cut costs for teams, to help smaller teams. The one lug is designed to help costs. They all agreed to cut pit crew staffs down. They cut down on so many inspections as requested by teams.

Part of these cost cutting agreements was there would not be the same tolerence of prior car generations - you get caught cheating and big penalties await including taking wins away.

Keep in mind nascar has way more teams/cars than other sports and teams have lots of money to hire specialists. They all agreed to cut some of the extra inspections to save everyone money but fines bigger if caught.

My guess is the 19 and 20 and 23 were also cheated up (Bubba did not all the sudden get good at driving lol). But after the race they pick the inspection cars (top 2 a d randoms) and the rest are released to teams. Once that happens then a bit later they find the 11/18 issues - its too late to go inspect all related cars due to chain of custody. So its likely they had it too but too late to bring back due to custody.

This cheat gave them an aero advantage no diff than Keslowski. They shod be given same type severe penalties. Only diff is they found Keslowsi’s at their HQ a few days after race.

Again, teams agreed to new way of policing, they are not going backwards to massive pre race inspections due to costs and smaller teams would be hurt the most. Teams know wins can be taken away.

True but yesterdays actions should prevent it.

Just as important imagine nascar not finding the cheat last night and those 2 teams awarded playoff points based on the cheat therefore costing non cheaters a spot in playoffs. Its possible Tue fines and points deductions could move these 2 cheaters out of playoffs thus putting Harvick back in.

Yeah you are correct. I found an article about it. And it happened in '91, not '89.

I know Harvick was DQ'd in tech in '18, but was allowed to keep the win.

Having to retroactively do something is part of the issue. If there is a way to catch it beforehand, then they should do that. Maybe they should have tried to make that easier in the design phase of the new car.

NASCAR considers itself a major sports league. You don't see other leagues changing the outcomes of games. Even when a CFB team gets wins vacated, they don't give wins to the other teams. Though just to be clear, I'm not suggesting they just don't have a winner at all for the races under the current system where there is a DQ.

gain, teams agreed to new way of policing

That doesn't make it a good system, or good for the sport.

Taking wins away after the fact just cheapens it, whether its justified or not. Are Chase fans really excited that he "won" a race he didn't lead a lap of? I'm sure they are glad that it helps him points wise, but its not the same as having the guy who everyone saw cross the finish line first be the winner for anyone watching.

What I am seeing reported today is that it was made crystal clear to the teams … even if fans didn’t get the message … that the “Bill France Rule” about not changing the winner once fans left the track was no longer in effect, is gone, kaput, never ever coming back, and that if teams touched things that they had been forbidden to touch, there would be hell to pay and severe consequences.

Apparently they meant it.

Comparing to other sports is just dumb and lazy. We have complex mechanical cars compared to sticks and balls.

You continue to miss the key points: They agreed not to do complex pre race inspections but did agree to severe penalties if caught after the race.

I fricking hate woke nascar but this was not some surprise to the teams. They all signed on the dotted line.

Gibbs cheated and got caught at the track after race. Win taken away. Simple. I bet they stop cheating too. No massive cluster F needed for all teams pre race. If you are a small team this is great news.

The nature of the sport demands cars to pass inspection. So many ways to cheat and get the upper hand.

Kinda like the Kentucky Derby.

I'm not missing them, I've said multiple times that I understand the system (and agree with the ruling because that is the system we use currently) I just do not like the system.

If its a massive cluster frick, find a way to do it better. I would argue changing an outcome is a bigger clusterfrick than the inconvenience of inspecting cars, but to each their own.

I'm fine with inspecting cars, I just think we do it before the race if at all possible. They used to do it that way, and just redesigned the car which gave them an opportunity to make it easier to do pre race if they chose.

I'm also fine with what happened in the context of the current rule set, and if they break the rules again it should happen again. But why wouldn't you just eliminate the possibility of ever being in the position where you have to change a race outcome if youre able to do so?

I agree w/others here and on other sites that Gibbs was trying stuff for the playoffs and they went too far and got caught.

They won't be trying anything now.

BTW, I never heard that JGR was appealing. Noon was the cut-off. Anyone see anything different?

An appeal is kind of pointless when its for a win taken away after a review of the car

Its just an extra headache for everyone, for us only to be told the next day/later in the week that its upheld.

Yep. I would like to see if the 19 also did it. They are usually the black sheep of JGR/Toyota in terms of what they do to the car. But if it was just a test to see what they could get away with before the playoffs, they probably had it too.
