If it was a fuel issue, what’s the penalty? 5 places?
Max would have been 1 and then Penalized and been higher than he is now.

And his 2nd to last lap was purple up til the end, that time might have gotten him 3rd or 4th

Yup, he would have been front two rows with second to last lap he aborted.

Automatic back of the grid

I'm scratching my head why Max aborted his second to last lap. He was on fire. He could have had pole then and there.

Going to be funny if still didn’t have enough fuel… aborted 2nd to last and then screwed the pooch

Should be a DQ. Pitlane start.
Get to see Max try to push through on a tight track.
Merc hit with a 25k penalty for Lewis' nose ring. Lewis has a note from a doctor saying the nose ring is to clear up an infection.

LOL… no reason to fine for that, but also what a stupid excuse.
Sounds like Cantrell out of NO

Now we are going to see Ben push to get HAM dq'd for not being medically cleared to race.
Ben really letting his Bernie come through.

So question… let’s say Max finished that lap, only had maybe quarter mile to go and shut down the car immediately after and parked on track a little ways down, what would be the ramifications?
They were obviously concerned with him finishing and then going around one more time to get back to PIT row. So what if he just stops? Any rules about having to return under own power?

I believe he is fine. As long as there is fuel left to measure. I would think it is the same as not finishing your lap due to any other retirement. (Leclerc in Monaco; Nico in Monaco)
Leaving the car subjects his car to more scruteneering is the only thing, but if he was top 3 he would have had that anyway.

Yep, Hungary it seems, maybe Imola...
Only reason they caught him was instead of random he was automatically subjected to full scruteneering for stopping on the last lap.

Forgot about that… so seems like the RB engineers and Racey jumped the gun instead of letting him finish the lap and shutting it down immediately.

Haven't heard if he had enough sample or not, probably would have heard by now.
But they were risking DQ vs P8 with that decision. Probably the smart move for the overall championship.

Sky Sports tweeted this out earlier...I had read that the penalties for overspending weren't yet known so I don't know where they got this.

Those are the possible penalties, but severity or inclusion of which ones are unknown.
Any of those are on the table...not all of them.
