why they are running wheel covers? Aero? Wonder if there will be brake cooling problems.
To reduce the turbulent wake, just part of the whole idea behind the aero of the 2022 car.
It is hard to say if anyone will have brake heat dissipation issues. It could happen. The craziness we saw in the late naughts with wheel covers (damn those pesky Scuderia engineers) made a big effort with brake cooling but at least the ones in 08 and 09 were static. In any case, the teams have very little leeway with the wheel covers so if they have an issue they have to find a different solution UNLESS (most) all the teams have issues and they modify the rules.

Seems like they are allowed more recovery from their brakes this year as well.
No doubt they will push the limits, but that should help the heat.

For those that arent familiar:
F1 teams have been using these "cake tins" for a while now...
Seen above: these are brake covers that control the air flow around brake assembly to cool the rotors and regulate temperature in the tyres
In the past, teams used to vent this airflow out through the rim of the tyre... Mercedes was one of the best at this, and in 2018 their tech really caused some controversy (was this a moveable aerodynamic part?)
See below: the hot air vented through the rim to the outside of the tyre and around the car
With the new regulations mandating wheel covers, this means the air can no longer escape the outside of the rim. Now, airflow has to be removed on the INSIDE of the aerodynamic profile of the car... in short, the air travels through the duct, around the "cake tin" and back out the inside of the tyre, behind the duct... think about the shape of the omega symbol
Will it cause overheating problems?? Only time will tell, but there are multiple "moving parts" to this equation... mainly team engineers, the F1 rule book and Pirelli

Last year's Alpine.
This year's is rumored to have the BWT pink stripe.

I like it, always thought their white cars just looked like work vehicles driving around the track.
At least we know they can afford paint now.
I like the blue though.

I like it, but then again I liked last year's Williams livery as well.
The front wing is made up of 3 components, not 4 like everyone else. Assuming this is just a "show" wing.

Looks better on the track than in the edited photos IMO

Is it me or does the press release car show 2 upright supports on the rear wing and the on track car only show 1 center upright?

I think that has something to do with the DRS...but yeah it is different.

The whole nose looks different. A lot more rounded.
Even meets the front wing in a different spot.

The roundness looks the the Concorde plane did in it's nose-down position. Very different than their renders that show the flatter nose. Kind of funny looking, but the livery colors look a lot better on the track than in the darker renders.

I have no idea how/if any of this translates to a fast car, I've just enjoyed playing "spot the differences" from car to car.
Haas, Red Bull, Aston, Alfa Romeo, and Alpha Tauri have all shown 2 uprights with a center DRS control mechanism, McLaren and Williams have shown the one singular upright with the control mechanism built in.
Here's the camo'ed up Alfa Romeo on track, didn't see that posted yet.

Like being an amateur meteorologist in hurricane threads.
Could also be the official release livery. They did the hearts camo type livery a few years ago on Valentines day.
