Ferrari believe the tear-off came from Verstappen, with team principal Mattia Binotto suggesting the overheating issue may have affected the sensors measuring Leclerc’s speed, leading to him picking up a time penalty for speeding in the pit lane.

There is no love most between these two. It is quite obvious that Alonso is just jealous that Lewis beat him as a rookie in the same car when Alonso was already a 2-time champion, made better career decisions and has won more championships than him.
It's sad to see Alonso unable to let it go.

Asked if he was surprised to see Leclerc pit so late, Alonso told Sky: "Yeah I was surprised.
“But Ferrari always does some strange strategy, so that was one of those.”

Anyone who actually watched F1 in 2007 knows how shitty McLaren treated Alonso in deference to their grown home rookie talent.
Absolutely unheard of to give a rookie teammate the same notes as a defending champion.
After Hungary, Alonso outscored Hamilton and beat him in every race but one.

Mclaren wanted to win a title. That's why.
Alonso got beat by that rookie and went scorched earth leaving. Dude has done nothing but burn bridges his whole career.
Hell of a driver. Can kill a team though.

They literally finished level on points.

And Alonso lost the tie breaker.
To think Mclaren could have that Honda engine in the back had Alonso not been such a diva about it.

quote:I never liked young Alonso because of Flabbio Briatore but I like him now because he's an old guy fighting to stay in the sport. He does tend to leave a swath of destruction wherever he goes. The whole spygate stuff with Ron dennis was quite entertaining to watch. Today's drama is pretty tame compared to what's gone on in the past

Zandvoort next week. It's great to have this circuit back on the calendar. But it's been host to many tragedies especially in the deadly 70s, none more horrific than Roger Williamson's horrible death almost 50 years ago.
Motor racing has come a long way in terms of safety the past 50 years. Its shocking to see how ill prepared track staff were back then. Marshall's standing around while someone dies in his car and all the competitors save one brave soul continue to race like its not even happening.
RIP Roger Williamson

Lol old man Hamilton complaining about his back again.
TBF, what 37 year old would not be complaining about their back after a bounce like that. I'm 37 and hurt my back brushing my teeth the other day.

They keep building shitboxes and they will get plenty of time to use it.

quote:I just did a re-watch of all the Race in 30s for this season on F1TV with my kid to get him caught up and I hear ya. I don't know if I'd go as far saying Sainz should be driver 1 but your overriding point is spot on.
I’m starting to think Sainz should be the 1. You can’t blame ALL of Leclerc’s struggles on strategy.
While Ferrari has done him no favors, LeClerc has shot himself in the foot just as many times. Sainz is more consistent but LeClerc does seem to have a higher ceiling but more frick ups as well.

Sainz has cleaned up his racing after a beginning that found him making lots of mistakes.
I think Ferrari had to use team orders when they did, Sainz was struggling bad.

quote:I wouldn't say it's a given. This time last year he had six wins and finished with ten. He'd have to win five more this year to own the record. He'd have to win over half as there are only 8 races left. Last year, after Spa, there were 10 more races and Max won only 4 of those.
Max is going to easily break the record for number of race wins in a season this year

He doesn't have that this season. Maybe he doesn't win 5 of the next 8 but as of right now, if I had to bet at even odds, no way I'd bet that he doesn't win 5 of 8 at this point.

Red Bull is big about going after superlative records, so they may push hard. They could definitely get the record.
But like a lot of teams, when they have both titles wrapping up, tend to take their foot off the gas. They move all the focus to next season.
