Greetings all:
What a memorable Silly Season thus far. I heard an interesting take re: the difference in a season's general race strategy between the top three (3) teams...
Red Bull - Focus on driver one's (Max) feedback and build the car around the same, fine tuning throughout the season as he learns the car's tendancies, and mostly trust the driver's input on strategy calls.
Mercedes - Build the car, and allow the driver's racecraft to adjust, like a seven-time world champion can do, to the tendancies, trusting their racecraft, and taking under serious consideration their input on strategy calls given their experience.
Ferrari - Build the car, expect the driver to adjust, and accept hardly any driver input on strategy calls.

TLDR? Ferrari is, and always has been, a beurocracy, for better (leader in WCCs) or worse (see 2022)...

but I think the team would have to make some decisions (like driver lineup) with entertainment in mind.
Which is why I think Danny Ric driving for Haas kinda makes sense if that seat is available. Whether traditionalists like it or not, DtS absolutely blew open the popularity of F1 in the U.S. And DtS has made Ric a very popular driver in the U.S.
If his asking price isnt too high for Haas (which it shouldnt be if it is based on recent performance but who knows?), then why doesnt it make sense? Take the most popular driver from the series that introduced most American fans to the sport and pair him with the American team. Have to imagine it would draw a shite ton of eyeballs to the American team which sponsors would love plus it would make Haas a central story on DtS again and, again, sponsors would love.

Cant argue with that. But cant deny his popularity though - still a big name despite underperforming regularly.

I think it was a clip shown in DTS where Brundle asked Steiner how many employees he had and he replied 212.
Brundle was visibly stunned as that was less than a quarter the number working at the big teams at that time.
As far as wearing hats, I get the feeling Gunther shouldn't be the point man on big sponsor negotiations. The meeting shown with 1&1 was a bit cringeworthy as he isn't a salesman type. Zak Brown on the other hand is and it shows in how covered the McLaren is with sponsor decals.

I've always felt people with those big smiles plastered on their face constantly are basically fakes.
I don't care for him much. Would be surprised if he forgot how to drive however.

Gunther is to brutally blunt to be a good sales person. They really need someone at Haas handling that aspect, then bring Gunther in for a stupid photo shoot with a toy boat for the good feels.

Hell, have someone from Stewart-Haas run the marketing crap. They seem to have done well and it's basically in house already.
The typical Nascar sponsor won't work in F1 however. At least not the current type of sponsors. THey need to be global businesses otherwise there is no way they will pony up for a big time F1 sponsorship as even with the growth of the sport in the US F1 still doesn't beat Nascar for eyeballs. And Nascar has had sponsor problems for years now.

Regarding Guenther: I know his backstory, coming to the US and being the guy who convinced Haas to get into F1. But he's the team principal and we see the same issues with the Haas F1 team year after year. I understand that budget issues will limit how competitive the car can be, but we see mental mistakes race after race that have nothing to do with huge budgets. I get that he's a popular figure, but I don't know how he hasn't gotten fired yet.
Regarding Danny Ric: I could never decide if I liked him or not, maybe his personality has been a little too bubbly for my taste. I was sympathetic when he felt that Red Bull was favoring Max, I got the same impression. But now that he has another ace teammate and he's struggling mightily, it's not a good look.
I'd like to see him at Haas to see how he stacks up against Magnussen. KMag is considered a good but not top driver, so if Ricciardo can't beat him consistently, that would kill any remaining reputation he has. I'm willing to attribute his issues to problems with the McLaren, I can withhold judgment until I see him in another car. Getting canned by McLaren might be the best thing for his career. If he initiated the departure, he would be accused of running away. But a move to another team may save his career.

I used to think Guenther getting fired would coincide with Haas pulling out completely because of what you mentioned with him being the guy that got Haas to pull the trigger in the first place. Now I'm not so sure.
I don't know how he hasn't gotten fired yet.

Lets get silly with it.... just for grins....
Williams - Albon and Sarg
HAAS - KMag and Schu
Alphatauri - Yuki and Dannyboy
Aston Martin - Stroll and Alonso
Alpine - Ocon and Gasly
McL - Norris and Pastry
AR - Bottas and Zhou
Merc - Lewis and GRuss
F - LeClerc and Carlos
RBR - Max and Checo
I think the real question is how bad do RBR want to keep Gasly in the pipeline
We know Horner loves Yuki and as far as Danny goes, does he come home to the RB umbrella or does he bolt to Indy?? That's one of the two big hammers to drop... the other is Gasly
We know RBR lost their best prospect earlier this year from some "unfortunate comments"... and DannyBoy in an AT is a solid place for him in F1
Question is, what does Pierre do?? Alpine is a solid 4th in the constructors, and Ocon is a Merc driver on loan... Dude could be #1 driver in two years and land plenty of podiums under the Alpine banner

Is he still? I know Toto had a part in his move to Alpine, but I assumed he was clear of Merc itself now.
If Danny wants to stay in F1 no matter what he may go to AT, I just don't know his thoughts on going to a junior team. Or maybe he sees a future with Porsche coming in and AT spreading its wiiiings.
