Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Twins have made Byron Buxton a contract extension offer "in excess" of $70 million.

The offer "includes escalators and incentives that would increase its potential value." Rosenthal also notes that Buxton "likely will be dealt if he rejects the proposal," whether it's this month or, more likely, over the offseason

That’s a lot of money for a guy that has only played in 100 games one season in his career. He’s a great player when healthy but it’s hard to trade a guy that can’t stay healthy when his value is his athleticism.

he Marlins offered star outfielder Starling Marte a three-year, $30MM contract extension, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Marte rejected the proposal, and Nightengale writes there’s now “a great chance” the impending free agent will be traded in advance of the July 30 deadline.
It’s not especially surprising to hear Marte and his representatives at Rep 1 Baseball passed on a $30MM proposal. Jordan McPherson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reported last month that Marte was seeking a three or four year deal that paid around $50MM.

Will anyone try to make a deal for Strasbugh or Scherzer? I know Strasbourg is injured but shouldn’t he be on rehab starts now? Plus the Nats are out of it, they’ve lost what 11 of last 13?

Strasbugh
basically impossible to move at this point. His salary is poised to be as big an albatross as any in the mlb

Unfortunately he’s headed to the Knicks. The Knicks will, finally, be contenders, again. Good for basketball but frick the Knicks.

The Athletic’s Dan Hayes reports that the Twins’ initial ask in return for Berrios from one interested team was a pre-arbitration player on the Major League roster and a pair of top 100 prospects.

Safe to assume Berrios won't be moved
