van Vleuten (partly) made up for the road race by dominating the TT. Reusser from Switzerland got Silver and van der Breggen picked up bronze. \

Chloe Dygert wasn't in her pre-accident form, dunno if she had an off day or it is just indicative of her rehab level.

I thought is was kinda cool Masomah Ali Zada competed on the refugee Olympic team, she is from Afghanistan. She was slow as molasses (aka I could have beaten her) but it is a neat story whether she should actually be competing or not on pure merit. I personally think her story is better than Eric the Eel's.

Men are out on the TT course.

Fuuny to see McNulty in his USA jersey but with UAE on his MET helmet.

Remco is fastest in the barn currently.

ETA Uran pipped Remco by 2.5s

ETA every one has finished the first lap:

Roglic
Dumoulin
Ganna
WVA

all within 11 sec

I guess I am talking to myself

ETA Tom Dom in the hot seat @ 56:05

McNulty almost 4 minutes down

ETA Roglic in faster over a minute faster than Tom Dom!! 55:04

ETA Ganna 3rd at last time check 44 seconds behind Rog

WVA out of the medals likely

ETA Kueng in but won't be a medal

ETA WVA in @ 5th so will finish 6th

ETA Ganna is the final rider slots in @ 5th

Roglic Gold by over a minute
Tom Dom Silver
Rohan Dennis Bronze

I expected Ganna to do better but thought the course suited WVA and Roglic better. I picked WVA but he obviously went too deep in the road race and Roglic rebounded better from his troubles in the Tour.

Roglic put on a clinic. Chapeau! or maybe I should say Klobuk!

I'm surprised Pogi didn't ride the TT. He would have blown it out of the water given how hard the course was.

That is what I said when I posted the graphic of the course elevation. If Pogacar was only going to ride one I thought the TT suited him better. That TT course was made for riders like Pog, Rog and WVA. I can't imagine Ganna was pleased when he saw it. I do think WVA would have medalled if the RR had a little more organization and he didn't have to do those huge pulls.

WVA was clearly smoked between the Tour and then pulling for 6 straight hours in the road race.

Team tactics were atrocious in both road races. There is no reason the Belgians in the men's race and the Dutch in the women's race should have lost to a "single" rider.

I don't dislike Carapaz but I bet if you compared the watt-hours each expended in that race WVA probably put out 20% more. It was like he was the super-domestique for the whole peloton including four other Belgians.

Just finished watching Women's pursuit:

Qualifying

Germany with a new world record 4:07
GB +1.7 on their snazzy and radical Lotus designed bikes
US +2.8
Italy +4.3
France +5.1
New Zealand +5.3
Australia +6.2
Canada +8.5

Top 4 have a chance for gold.

Women's team pursuit

China Gold 31.895

Germany Silver +0.085

ROC Bronze

China broke the WR in qualy but didn't lower it in the medal race

Men's sprint qualy:

1 Denmark 3:45.014
2 Italy 3:45.895
3 New Zealand 3:46.079
4 Great Britain 3:47.507
5 Australia 3:48.488
6 Canada 3:50.455
7 Germany 3:50.830
8 Switzerland 3:51.514

One of the Australians broke his aero cockpit off right at the stem junction, they were allowed a restart but didn't have the juice left. This is what happens when you save money buying Chinese bars off eBay...

Ganna looks to be very strong, he was the anchor pull for Italy and had to back off because he was gapping the the other two riders (they were down to three at that point).

Forgot to update "real" cycling.

Pogacar just signed a deal with UAE through the end of 2027, guesses put it at around $35 million. Hope he is able to hide it before they come asking for it back when they cross out all his wins. Kidding, not kidding.

Neilson Powless won Clásica San Sebastián his first pro win.

van Vleuten won the women's race and was happy to be back with her Movistar team. She was overheard telling one of the Movistar people (maybe the PR person) "in the Olympics I miss a team, here I had a team". I will allow it Annemiek.

Olympics:

tomorrow aka tonight

More team pursuit and team sprint Men's team sprint finals and Women's team pursuit finals

Come on Keirin and Omnium which are my fav events.

congrats to Dygert and the women for that bronze. to come back from her accident last year is pretty amazing. The British are really salty about losing to the Danes and that crash today

I sure hope that TotalEnergies gives Sagan a highly visible jersey, it has been terrible lately trying to find him in the peloton.

Who y'all got?

Roglic?
Bernal/Carapaz?
Landa?

I think Ineos will have too many cooks syndrome.

Landa looked good winning the Vuelta a Burgos and Bahrain is stacked.

Mas, Lopez, Valverde maybe but it is Movistar but it isn't the Tour.

If there were more TT miles I would say Roglic would be a runaway and Jumbo is solid. I am split between Bernal and Rog but I will go with Primoz cause the Slovenians got that primo juice. In the end I just hope it is a dog fight the whole way. The Tour was fun but it was Pogacar's to lose from too early on to keep me fully invested in the GC.
