Geraint Thomas out already.
This is so odd to watch and listen to.
Especially coming off the Tour.
I miss the Tour already. Favorites still in the front.
This is just weird compared to what we watched for 3 weeks.
It’s a long Crit race with a man and woman calling the race that I can’t understand haha
Also seeing these riders in their national kits instead of team kits.. definitely confusing.
Japan looks like a joy to ride in tought

Ok but it’s sad the commentary here has been sub-par at best in my opinion. Maybe I love Phil stumbling to formulate words and his nostalgic voice but this lady doesn’t do it for me.

I keep having to go to the start list to figure out who is who.

Carapaz.... breaking McNulty who knew

I’m a Carapaz hater so this stings double for me

You mind if I ask why? I don't follow pro cycling that closely, but he came off as a pretty likeable guy in the Netflix show about the Movistar team a few years ago. I've been a fan of his since I watched that.

To me I feel the opposite… There’s a season 2 and he supposedly signed a deal with a new team (Ineos) while still under contract with Movistar.
There’s a difference between confidence and cockiness and he seems to believe in himself a ton. Again maybe I just love to hate

Ahh gotcha. I hadn't seen they had made a 2nd season I'll have to check it out.

For me, I am not a big Carapaz fan not because of the contract issues since I think most riders are woefully underpaid it's because he rides for Ineos. I disliked Sky now Ineos. I realize the duplicity in this because Ineos actually pays their riders, still underpaid IMO but they help set the market.

The TT isn't exactly flat, I find it interesting Pogacar put his eggs in the road race basket. It seems like and good match for him, though I think WVA has to be a favorite.

Ganna will blast the TT. He’s fresh and has been training specifically for it since the Giro

The commentary was straight garbage

sure was
I was impressed by McNulty thought he might have a chance at Silver, but he broke at the end.

You can never count out a WC but I don't think the course suits him.

The women's RR had one of the worst tactical errors I have seen in a long time. They could have reeled Keisenhofer in but they lost track that she was up the road. The motos did a very poor job in both road races communicating the gaps.
The disappointment on van Vleuten's face was classic. These women have forgotten the am rule of keeping count of every rider up the road and counting them back in once caught.

I thought I just heard a studio analyst say that moto communication isn't allowed in the Olympics. VV thought she had won Gold when she crossed the line. Damn!

Race radios are not allowed, the motos normally communicate the gaps but were limited during the men's RR and were basically non-existent in the women's.

It was a Dutch disaster resulting from reliance on old-school communications.
Olympic protocol dictates that the peloton races without radio earpieces, leaving riders dependent on in-race motorcycles and team cars to relay time gaps. The system broke down for van Vleuten and her all-conquering teammates Sunday as telephone lines between staffers and sport directors went haywire.
“Normally we have signs here for communication. But the telephone line was apparently very bad with Loes [Gunnewijk, sport director],” van Vleuten said. “Such an important course and no communication. This is amateurish”
