The Mets have reached out to veteran catcher Robinson Chirinos in the early stages of the offseason, Ken Davidoff of the New York Post reports. They’ve also been in contact with well-traveled backup catcher Drew Butera.

quote:

Nov. 20: MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported last week that Anthony Rendon is on the Dodgers' radar, but fellow MLB Network insider Joel Sherman thinks Los Angeles would be better off going after one of the other top free agents on the market.

"The first thing I would do is, I would seriously pursue Gerrit Cole," Sherman said Monday on MLB Network's "Hot Stove" program as he played the role of the Dodgers' general manager. "I want to get to the point where Cole and Walker Buehler are my No. 1 and 2 starters, and I begin to de-emphasize Clayton Kershaw, who's still a very good Major League starter. But it gets to the postseason every year and they're somehow beholden to Clayton Kershaw, who even himself, after [National League Division Series] Game 5 when they were eliminated against Washington, talked about his history in the postseason, which is, at best, mixed."

quote:

Nov. 20: Zack Wheeler may not be a free agent for long. According to MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi on MLB Network's "Hot Stove" program Tuesday, the right-hander is receiving a lot of interest, and his market already has a good deal of clarity. Morosi reports that the Angels, Padres, White Sox and Twins are the "leading group right now" for Wheeler.
quote:

Nov. 19: When Nolan Arenado re-signed with the Rockies for $260 million over eight years in February, he might have set the ceiling for what Anthony Rendon can expect to get this offseason. The two players have been incredibly similar, stats-wise.

Arenado's 162-game averages, 2017-19: 41 HR, 124 RBIs, 131 OPS+, 6.3 bWAR
Rendon's 162-game averages, 2017-19: 32 HR, 121 RBIs, 143 OPS+, 6.2 bWAR
quote:

Nov. 19: When Spring Training camps opened this past February, four of the top free agents in Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel were still unsigned.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand doesn't think we'll see a repeat of that with this year's class, which is headlined by Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon and Stephen Strasburg. In fact, Feinsand thinks Strasburg could reach a deal before the Winter Meetings begin on Dec. 8 in San Diego.
quote:

Nov. 18: While Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said last week that he expects Francisco Lindor to be the team's Opening Day shortstop in 2020, trade speculation will continue to swirl around the 26-year-old. Lindor is two seasons away from free agency, so there isn't much urgency for Cleveland to get a deal done this offseason. But there are a handful of reasons why it makes sense to make the move now, Anthony Castrovince writes.

With two years of team control remaining, interested clubs may be willing to part with a significant package to acquire Lindor, even without assurances that the shortstop will sign an extension. However, The Athletic's (subscription required) Jim Bowden thinks the Tribe's best course is to permit the acquiring team to negotiate a new contract with Lindor at the time a trade is agreed upon, with the option of backing out of the swap if no agreement is reached.

The problem for the Indians, as Bowden points out, is that there are a limited number of teams with both the prospects to swing a trade for Lindor and the financial resources to sign him to a long-term contract. Bowden points to the Dodgers, Yankees and Phillies as the three potential suitors who best fit that criteria.

Sources told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi in late October that the Dodgers are planning to pursue a deal for Lindor this offseason. Bowden thinks it would take infielder Gavin Lux (Dodgers' No. 1 prospect, MLB Pipeline's No. 2 overall) and catcher Keibert Ruiz (Dodgers' No. 3, No. 33 overall) to pry Lindor from Cleveland. The Dodgers will likely be hesitant to part with Lux, but perhaps they would be more amenable to moving the 21-year-old if the Indians expand the deal to include right-hander Corey Kluber.

Bowden's suggested package from the Yankees is right-hander Deivi Garcia (Yankees' No. 1 prospect, No. 62 overall), third baseman Miguel Andújar and shortstop Oswald Peraza (Yankees' No. 29). Lindor would replace free agent Didi Gregorius as the Yankees' starting shortstop, with Gleyber Torres staying at second base. New York could be more open to moving Andújar after the emergence of Gio Urshela in 2019. DJ LeMahieu is also capable of playing third base.

As for the Phillies, acquiring Lindor would solve their need for a third baseman, with Jean Segura moving to the hot corner to make way for the All-Star shortstop. Bowden projects a package of third baseman Alec Bohm (Phillies' No. 1 prospect, No. 34 overall), shortstop Bryson Stott (Phillies' No. 3, No. 89 overall) and left-hander Cole Irvin (Phillies' No. 16) could be enough to bring Lindor to Philadelphia

It isn't happening but I've seen it posted by idiots after the Andujar for Kyle article came out. Because the Cubs may be willing to eat part of the salary to get rid of him and he would be a decent #3.

A lot of articles have the Yankees trading for him if the Cubs move Bryant and because Andujar is under control longer and cheaper, also because he is a lefty
