If they are so concerned why have an 18 horse field on a sloppy track

Well the rules are the same regardless of the field, but I get your point.

Travers is the one race I would like to win anyway. At least as far as US racing.

Is it likely he wins? No, of course not, but it's absolutely possible.

It’s why you can’t project “what if” scenarios in sports

Anything could have happened if the foul never happens, even if there’s a likely outcome. If the “spooked” horse did something else goofy as a reaction it could’ve been any number of outcomes

This is why I have a problem with the Derby. Ego's enter entries and late add supplements mean bigger purses.

But what’s your solution that makes you feel good inside? DQ the guy that did it and bump the rest up is pretty common sense and common place amongst any form of group competition

It’s not about feeling good inside, it’s about doing whats right, especially by the participants actually impacted.

The most fair solution, especially with something of this magnitude, is to rerun the race with the the rule violator disqualified.

Imagine this. #7 actually trips up #1, which leads to a massive chain reaction and pile up of bodies. #7 goes on to finish in first, and the next finisher is one of the horses that actually finished 15+ lengths behind, because he was so far behind that he was able to dodge the wreckage. A scenario that wasn’t too far fetched at the top of the final turn today.

Under this rule, that horse that was 15+ lengths behind is the Kentucky derby champion. You think that’s right?

So why don’t we go back to see how if any horses the 20 changed lanes on in front stretch

That’s how stupid this decision is going to impact races.

We are now going to have people start challenging impeded starts

In your scenario I think that’s the end of horse racing which is barely hanging on thanks to the Santa Anita anyway so it doesn’t matter.

In 145 years I can’t believe this is the first time there’s been such an obvious interference to DQ a horse.

145 years!!!

1 DQ
