These are tough games to give away. Especially on the road. Who knows. Could have been the best opportunity to steal one.

Hard to believe Penguins go 37 minutes without a shot on goal. And still win. Anyone remember Laviolette winning Stanley Cup with Hurricanes in 2006? I had forgotten he was their coach then.

What a strange game. I actually think it's concerning for Preds as no way the Pens play this poorly again. Plus I think they were thrown going from Ottawa defensive system to Preds. Not used to being pressured into quick decisions.

I strongly disagree. Nashville dominated the game and still lost. Sure, if they could hold the Penguins to about 10 shots a game, they would win the series, but they aren't going to be able to do that again.

The Penguins are the first team since 1956 to have an entire period in a Stanley Cup Final without shot. Being the Penguins, they of course won.
I'm of two minds about this. On one hand, it's frustrating to see a team have a horseshoe rammed so far up its arse. I mean, this is almost comically lucky at this point. They got some incredibly fortunate penalty calls, a goal overturned, and the kind of puck luck that teams dream about.
On the other hand, as a Caps fan, it's kind of nice to see a different team on the other end of it. Preds fans haven't really built up the decades worth of suffering for me to feel bad that they could completely dominate play yet still lose. If it were the Sharks or Canucks, sure. But the Preds? My feeling is more "welcome to the party. It gets worse from here."

Of course they did. Only 4 shots in the last 40 minutes of play. Penguins dominated the face off circle in the third (and still only had 4 shots). I credit both the Pred's defense but also Malkin / Crosby looked tired (so did Kessel but when does he not?)

The goal off of Ekholm's knee was a damn miracle. The first 5-3 powerplay was a gift from the heavens (to be clear, Neal deserved it; never saw conclusive evidence of Jarnkrok's).
The Preds showed resilience. The rest of this series is going to be awesome.

The cross check on Hornqvist was an extremly soft call. Cross checking is virtually legal in the postseason, and he was already falling over. I'm not positive contact was made, but it was pretty slight, and it didn't cause him to spill.
That said, at full speed, I can see why the refs made the call. I don't think it's a conspiracy or anything stupid like that. It was a fortunate break, and the Penguins seem to get those kind of fortunate breaks. Being lucky doesn't mean it doesn't count.

Game 1 was like the worst possible scenario for Nashville. Not only did they lose, but Pittsburgh will be way more motivated and focused for Game 2, probably, because of how they played in Game 1. That will probably be as poorly as they play all series.
I'd say it's pretty likely Nashville goes home down 0-2. And winning the series from that point will be somewhat of a long shot.
