If I understand the cap penalties, i believe it could upwards of $30-40mil over 5 years, right?

it would cost the owner $10M and i don't think there is a 3x penalty at any phase

There is a % penalty every year you are over the cap by the amount you are over I believe.

I know it starts at something like every dollar over the cap you have to give another dollar back to the NBA but I'm pretty sure multiple offenders have to pay more. If not. Still..

Over 5 years they will pay him 2 mill extra per year then he is worth then ALSO have to pay an extra 2 mill bc they went an extra 2 mill over the cap. Soooooo

At a minimum it will cost them atleast 20 mill over 5 years.

After five consecutive years, you pay a 100% tax. IIRC

Definitely not 5. I think it starts at 100% just after one year but it climbs to like 120% and 150% as the years go by

The tax can get as high as almost 5 dollars per dollar over for repeat offenders and highest dollar increment range.

It starts at 1.5 per dollar I believe also and increases by how much you are over.

1st number.. Amount over tax threshold
2nd number.. Standard tax per excess dollar
3rd number.. Repeat offender tax per excess dollar
$4,999,999 or less $1.50 $2.50
$5 million to $9,999,999 $1.75 $2.75
$10 million to $14,999,999 $2.50 $3.50
$15 million to $19,999,999 $3.25 $4.25
Over $20 million $3.75 + $0.50 per $5 million $4.75 + $0.50 per $5 million

Have to be over threshold 3 years in a row to be a repeat offender

So yeah.. That extra 2 mill to TT could add up to 25+ mill pretty easily

He'll be the starting center once Mozgov leaves. He's going to get paid regardless

Luckily for Gilbert they have two more years before they're in repeater status.

From Bleacher Report, breakdown for regular and repeat offender penalties:

quote:

So, for example, instead of being charged $1.25 per dollar between $0 and $5 million over the threshold, the charge is $2.50 per dollar. And for each dollar between $5 million and $10 million, the repeater rate is $2.75 as opposed to $1.75. For each dollar between $10 million and $15 million, instead of being charged $2.50 per dollar (under normal circumstances), the charge is $3.50 per dollar

Marc Stein on sportscenter seems to think Cousins will still get traded to the Lakers. He said Lakers are trying for a Cousins/LMA frontcourt

Lol a 6"9 center?? Nah.

Mozgov is much more valuable to this team than TT. I would gladly give him 15 mill over TT

Did you not watch any fourth quarter of the Cavs the past year?

I like Mozgov, but giving a center 50+ million who will be in his thirties for most of the contract is a gamble. Maybe it's because I've watched Z and Andy hobble up and down the court for the past 15 years.

So David West turned down 12 mil this year to play for the fricking Knicks? They must be giving him a few year deal

I think it's still more likely Karl gets fired before that happens.

In my selfish state also, I want to see a Cousins-WCS frontcourt badly
