Fun first race, I don't really like how these engines don't scream like the v8

Are Vettel and Red Bull favored to win the championships this year also? Why did he start so low on the grid in Australia? If Vettel is not the pre-season favorite, who is? I didn't really follow the preseason testing.

I'd say Red Bull have earned the right to be CALLED the favorites, even though their preseason has been pretty much a failure compared to some other teams. Overall so far the Mercedes powered cars have been much stronger than the rest of the field. With the exception being Riciardo today. Are the Red Bull cars that good, or was it a case of home grand prix luck? We'll find out soon.

I like Hamilton, but I can see Nico Rosberg filling the void if Vettel can't dominate this year. Nico showed some of that ability last year, and again today. He's hard to beat when he has a good car.

ETA wow, not so fast, Red Bull. Ricardo disqualified after his car didn't pass post race specs. uh oh

I've disliked this rule since I heard about it a while back. There is already a limit to the total amount of fuel you can use, so why can't teams use the fuel as they wish? Having a fuel flow limit is just another layer of unnecessary regulation.

Oh and for the record, Kobayashi was absolved of blame for taking Massa out. His rear brakes failed. I thought the incident looked suspicious when he so easily locked up his front tires.

Note to Ferrari. Just give Fernando a good car. Great is too much to ask. Just good. That´s enough for him to win it.

We'll well well. Just had to watch the race on delay coming back from a weekend trip. Thoughts:

1. The US announcers are still awful. Machete and the other clown. Thank god buxton is still on.

2. Nico and Lewis can have a great battle for the championship.

3. Assume merc runs away with this, the team battle for second is going to be good. RBR, McClaren, Williams, and Ferrari.

4. It will take a while to get used to the new engines

5. Malaysia will be a good indicator on the overheating issues.

6. I met button last year he is kind of a prick, I loved watching him trail his 21 year old teammate.

The new F1 Rules

quote:

Racing on qualifying tyres
How it worked in 2013: Drivers who made it to Q3 start the race on the tyres with which they set their fastest lap in Q3.

How it works now: Drivers who reach Q3 start the race on the tyres they used to set their fastest lap in Q2.

Nosecones
How it worked in 2013: The nose was no more than 550mm above the ground (high nose).

How it works now: The nose is no more than 185mm above the ground (low nose)

Why the change? Safety. The low nose is thought to be less likely to launch cars into the air in the event of an accident like Mark Webber’s at the 2010 European Grand Prix.

Points

How it worked in 2013: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1

How it works now: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 – except in Abu Dhabi, where it will be 50, 36, 30, 24, 20, 16, 12, 8, 4, 2…

Why the change? Because no one watches F1 on TV when the Championships are decided early. Double points at the final race keeps the Championships alive for longer and more people watching.

It was raining during qualifying and vettel didn't make the final group, I guess he just didn't have a good time in it out there. Hamilton on the other hand....he was born in the rain, molded by it...he didn't see the sunlight until he was a man.

Testing was mostly a shitshow for Red Bull and all the Renault-powered cars.

Kimi in 7th isnt bad. Ferrari needs to make a better platform.

Both Kimi and Fernando are better than the cars they're currently being provided. I'm hoping Ferrari can improve and give the Mercedes cars some competition this season.

This guy right here. He's gonna put Mercedes back on the map.

How do you guys watch F1 in the US? It's hard to find a race to watch here.

Thanks for the input. Good to see that Red Bull is starting a bit slow this year. About time things got shaken up a bit in F-1. RB/Vettel's domination reminds me of Ferrari/Schumi from the early 2000s.

I disagree with one thing you said though. In an equal car, Hamilton will 90% of the time be faster than his team mate if his years partnering Alonso, Kovalainen, and more recently Button, is any indication. What Lewis lacks is a bit of restraint and patience. Hopefully he has matured since his early days.

I will go so far as to say that Lewis has the most natural raw speed than any other driver on the grid including Alonso and Vettel. If Mercedes figures out their reliability issues and can stay ahead of Red Bull/Adrian Newey in the development race, Lewis will be hard to beat. That he is a great qualifier is another advantage he has. Nico will win some races, but he definitely won't beat Lewis over an entire season if they have similar cars.

NBC Sports (most of the time - sometimes it's on the main channel). I DVR and then watch when I wake up.

Ferrari already reworking the car for Kimi...sounds like Massa days.

I'm voting Massa beats both Ferraris in the next race.
