Not only one of the top 12 American golfers, he's ranked #11 in the world.

Which shows why the OWGR are absolute horse-shite. Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Stricker...all these guys can win unless it's a major and then they choke. You shouldn't be allowed to be considered a top 10 golfer unless you have won a major at some point in your career. You DEFINITELY should not be ranked #1 in the world with ZERO majors...so stupid.

Yeah....No

With the amount of golfers capable of winning PGA tournaments and only having 4 majors, there is a strong chance that the best players don't have majors on their resumes.

So, with 20-20 hindsight, who should have been on the team in place of Stricker?

From reading golf post on TD, sounds like there are plenty of posters more than capable of handling that Ryder Cup pressure.

I wasn't opposed to him being on the team, but was opposed to how he was used. He showed nothing on Friday and should have been sat the entire day on Saturday, and on Saturday afternoon Tiger should have been paired with someone else like Keegan. I also think that the order on Sunday was a mistake. What the US needed to avoid was the Europeans pulling level with them, so they needed to try to win some of those early matches, then put the questionable guys in the middle and save a stud or two for the end in case it comes down to that.

I'm confused why Stricker and Furky are catching all the blame? Yeah they missed crucial putts, but Mickelson blew it to Rose (granted Rose hit some nice putts). Snedeker sucked a fat one. Kuchar lost to Westwood who couldn't make a birdie to save his life all weekend. American's sucked dick on Sunday. Every last one of them except the Johnsons.

Lots of guys are CAPABLE of winning majors, but they don't, so what's your point? Do you honestly think that Luke Donald has ever been the best golfer in the world?

The difference between majors and other tournaments is the strength of the competition and the pressure, and guys like Luke and Lee haven't shown the ability to get it done against the best in big time pressure, so how can you say they are the best?

You know how many golfers in the Top 100 have a Major to their credit?

I'm not saying that you have to have won a major to be in the Top 100, but #1..come on.

Hadn't the last 15 majors been won by different people until Rory won the PGA? there's an incredible amount of parity in golf right now, even more of a reason to not consider someone #1 without a major.

Luke won the European Tour and the PGA Tour money list in the same season. I'd say that entitles you to be called #1 in the world

How many times have we seen Phil blow Majors and then give that "it really isn't that important in the scope of life speech"? Well this time his what ever happens happens attitude cost his team and his countrymen.

I think it proves the opposite...should mean that there are plenty of guys who have won majors who deserve consideration and no need to consider a non-major winner.

Back to Ryder cup...who is going to produce more young golf talent in the next generation? The US or Europe? I would argue that socio-economic factors will force a big golf decline in Europe and the US will only decline slightly..so maybe in 20 years we will start dominating again.

What was he supposed to do? Rattle his change in his pocket while Rose was putting so he wouldn't make that bomb on 17? or give him a "noonan" while he hit his approach on 18? The dude got beat by a 35 foot putt that was 10 feet too fast and another long putt on 18. I wonder if the Americans had some bad numbers on the pin position on 18 because they all overclubbed on that hole.
