I remember I had a big argument with Mr Clean about the receiver that went to Okla. He ran perfect routes and during some early game I saw him running full speed down the side line, holding back a defensive back with his right hand and catching the ball with his left (and securing it with his right hand eventually). i wanted him at LSU and Clean wanted some big name receiver instead. Not that it mattered. He did well at Ok.

This is back when Parkview refused to play up and play anyone of note.

Congrats on beating Hosanna Christian Academy though?

Only one of pbs’ 4 pre split titles were from years when playing up was even allowed... 07,10 and 12 playing up was not allowed. If ya gonna bash at least know the facts. And in their one post split title they beat sTm who has twice the enrollment of pbs. And ipso de facto the 3a selects were forced to play up with the 4a

Can’t speak to St. James, but Indy was in a transition year that season. Baguio has retired in 2000 after an overrated #1 regular season ranking, losing to Redemptorist in the 3A quarterfinals. Carona took over a very young team that was scrappy but wasn’t seasoned yet.

I played in that 2001 game at Indy on the offensive line, and Parkview wasn’t anything special in my opinion. They had talent and yes they put up 41 on us at home, but I don’t remember any big defensive turnovers. We were just young at all positions, but we were able to move the ball fairly well on the ground. Just couldn’t get it in the end zone.

I literally explained it was a young talent issue and there wasn’t turnovers, but yeah draw your dumb conclusions.

I was actually on that Denham team That was the year we went 0-10. (How does a school with 2k kids fail to win a single game?).

True story, we scored a touchdown late on a fumble by the quarter back and return. Our guy was running unimpeded with no one in front of him the whole way. At about the 20, the defender that was trailing, for no apparent reason, turned around and fell in to the knees of the running back that was chasing (who had no chance in hell of catching our guy). Clipping penalty. Score off the board, and we got demoralized even more.

That was my senior season at Redemptorist and although we were very young we still thought there was no way in hell Parkview could beat us. (They hadn’t the entire time we were in high school). We jumped out on them that first game like 23-7 and it felt like business as usual and then that flexbone trip option kicked into gear and it was a blood letting.

None of us felt as confident two weeks later in the rematch. That O line could really lean on you; and Booth was a bad dude
