Everyone likes to crown 1995 Nebraska as the undisputed GOAT. I, on the other hand, disagree. I think they were the GOAT for their era. However, the style of play has drastically changed. In addition, I'd submit that the current athletes, even taking into account Nebraska's rampant steroid abuse, are bigger, faster, and stronger.

I have stated in the other thread that I think 2019 LSU beats 1995 Nebraska rather handedly, something to the tune of 52-28.However, others like to point out 2019 LSU giving up 400 yards to Ole Miss!

Nonetheless, in your opinion, how would that 1995 Nebraska team fare against 2011 Alabama? Given Nebraska's (outdated) style, do you think they'd get stomped? Be competitive? Win? Bear in mind, Alabama's defense gave up 300+ to Georgia Southern that year, so their 7 and rush defense must be suspect.

We weren’t an option tram. It worked round 1 because that was their weakness, so with a surprise it worked. Running it the exact same in round 2 was butt fricking retarded

GSU had success because they weee polished with it. Nebraska in 1995 was the gold standard

yeah, but we weren't very good at running the option.

1995 Nebraska was one of the best to ever do it.

Athletes and schemes get better over time so it’s unfair to compare modern teams vs past teams. All you can do is evaluate how dominant a team was based on the environment and time period that it played. Having said that, the 95 Nebraska team beat 4 top 10 teams by an average of 30 pts. That’s pretty impressive.

who is this "everyone" you speak of?

in the other thread, it's almost universal that 2019 LSU would beat Nebraska.

Yeh they isn’t close to accurate

Please tell me these two guys are barely 300 pounds Keep in mind they are 6’3 and 6’4”

Dishman was listed at 370 for the nfl draft and Anderson at 345

They were huge OTs for 1995. Huge

Were those their weights coming out of high school? Tommie Frazier was definitely bigger than 205. He had to be to run that offense the way he did.

Ya, I just always forget who was actually on that 95 Nebraska team. Take the weights and stars with a grain of salt.

Totally different schemes.

GSU was flexbone running the midline and veer. Nebraska was I-based running the belly and speed option. GSU’s option game was a hell of a lot more dangerous from scheme standpoint.

Alabama would have mashed that tiny defensive front.

Stopping Frazier and company would have been tough, but Alabama would definitely score more than 6 points.

I think 2011 Alabama and even more so 2021 Georgia were the two defenses in recent memory besides that Miami team who were perfectly built to stop that option offense. The pure strength and run stopping ability of every defensive lineman on both of those teams (and pure speed in Georgia's case with Davis, Walker, and Wyatt) combined with the speed, intelligence, and tackling ability (cannot be overstated vs the Nebraska option) of the linebackers would have given that Nebraska option a lot of problems.

You act as if those Nebraska teams never beat any ultra athletic defenses loaded with pros when in fact the did more times than not.
