The super hardcore fans are going to laugh and say you are being a fool but there are tons of people who are just tired of the antics.

They can’t see past their own fandom to realize for tons of people stepping away and turning off the tv really isn’t that difficult.

I know personally I love politics and debating, but sports was always an outlet away and the more it’s gotten intertwined the less I’ve enjoyed it.

I’m not saying I’m one of those people who will cut off the super bowl, because I won’t, but don’t discount that for a decent chunk of people it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

I'd like to personally thank you for providing an utterly senseless conclusion to my week. Now I can drink with impunity.

I wonder how many people said last month that they were going to eat healthier, and then had 5 pieces of king cake this week.

Still not watching the SB, though.

and it is a poll of NFL fans

So, if someone is pissed at the NFL and decides that they are no longer a fan, they don't count in the poll.

I’ve been a big NFL fan for many years. Im gradually moving away from it, and I’m not interested in watching this Super Bowl.

It’s the antics, the refs, the politics, the players, the owners.

There’s an arrogance in every facet that drives me further away each year.

This year will be more of a social thing, I'll watch but don't really care about either team.

I'd say only a small % of the entire viewership actually watch Super Bowl closely. Most people casually watch it. They are at parties or with friends adn are eating and drinking and half paying attention.

If the game is close in the 4th quarter then people actually pay attention.

The Super Bowl is more of a social/cultural affair to most people than it is a sporting event.

We’ve no idea who these 700 and something people are or where they are located or how they were chosen

They could be bots or trolls for all we know. That’s not unreasonable

That is and will always be the crux of your argument unless specifically stated. Online polls simply aren’t reliable and “landlines and cell phones across the country” or whatever os not reliable data, but thanks

I'll be at a party so I guess, technically, I'll be "watching". I'll really just be getting drunk though.

Way to vastly overstate your level of influence, buddy,
Does my use of “threatened” offend you? I don’t know a simpler term than that to describe the intolerance of many who commmented in a negative/hostile way to me freely expressing an unpopular opinion with which they disagree.

If I don’t want to watch the Super Bowl and haven’t for several years, what’s that to you? If I have a decreasing interest in pro sports, what’s that to you, also? And if I express my own views in a post here, it’s my right on a public message board to do that. As surely as it’s yours to disagree.

But you know how I know “threatened” was the right descriptive word? It was because of hostile, snarky posts like yours, attacking my motives for posting such heresy.

Somebody secure in his or her own beliefs and not threatened by mine would either just say “I disagree... here’s why” or else just ignored my OP and what followed, completely.

Great description. That pretty much sums up where I am and why I moved on from watching anyway, “just because.”

Re: the Super Bowl, I realized I was more interested in the funny new commercials than I was in the game. And even those stopped being as funny/interesting in recent years. Plus I can find them on the web without being subjected to having to watch a long and sometimes less than exciting game.

But that’s just me. Mine is no boycott, just a growing disinterest

This is my thought as we'll. I still watch the saints but it'll be tough to stay interested after brees retires.
