388 yards. Meanwhile the USGA & R&A sit on their asses and do absolutely nothing.

Did you see the hole he hit that drive on? Straight downhill after the 300 yard mark with typical links fairways. The hole added at least 60 yards to that drive.

Non-conforming which means it didn’t pass the coefficient of restitution test.

In less-Bryson like terms it would be referred to as a “hot” driver.

Shane has played with a chip on his shoulder since Rory was getting all of the attention leading up to the Open

Shane isn’t from Northern Ireland. Rory, Graeme, and Darren Clarke were the true hometown heroes. Shane isn’t from far away, but he’s more like a distant cousin, not immediate family.

Which is bullshite because they only tested 30 drivers.

If you’re going to test 30, test them all.

I read where Xander was pissed with the R&A and had a bit of a run in with them because they only randomly test 30 golfers. Also they said he was scrambling to find a replacement. Seems like a bonehead move to only have one driver and the one driver you have is illegal.

Makes sense that he didn’t get any attention then. However that may also be why he has played so well too, didn’t feel the pressure of a Rory or McDowell.

Yeah, Rory really wilted under all the build up and expectations. I’m still saddened that Rory has looked forward to this week for several years now, and with all of that he scores an 8 on the opening hole. Just an utter shock to the psyche.

But honestly, I think Graeme has played about as well as he can. Currently, Lowry is a better player most weeks than McDowell.

Thanks. I was returning to the TV as he was preparing to hit his 2nd shot, so no I didn't see the tee shot. I still feel the governing bodies need to do something about dialing the ball back. If this keep us, a lot of great golf courses that have held majors will be rendered obsolete.

Live from the Open showed Xander in his post round presser. He said he was “pissed at the R&A” not so much for ruling his driver illegal, but that someone from inside leaked that info and now he’s having to hear cat calls of cheater. Even his buddies are clowning out of fun, but he doesn’t like it at all. He asked why all of the drivers aren’t checked and only a select few. He said he’s handed a club by his manufacturer and he goes out and hits on the range/practice rounds. He claims to not have any knowledge of how it was illegal, as he’s not normally in the habit of performing tests (for legality)on each model he tries.

Says it was an honest mistake but now he’s been publicly shamed over it.
