Did anybody really think Eric Crouch or Tommy Frazier were NFL caliber QB's?

Tommie Frazier never played in the NFL, nor was he drafted -- his career ended due to recurring blood clots in his legs, not because of lack of talent.

Eric Crouch, on the other hand...

That's what I don't get...are we talking about best pro prospects who failed or college players with the best stats who failed? It seems to be the latter, but the former seems like it would be a more interesting list

I'm pretty sure Eric Crouch was drafted as a wide receiver. Why would he be included on this list? He may have had a short career, but does anyone really expect converted college quarterbacks to go on to have All-Pro careers?

Crouch was drafted as a returns specialist but then quit because he only wanted to play QB -- a couple of teams gave him looks at QB but it obviously didn't pan out.

Tommie Frazier was one of the 5 best college QBs of all time -- never played in the NFL due to his problems with his legs. Dude was an absolute stud... MVP of 3 straight NC games.

they are definitely talking about the best stats and career accomplishments that didn't do anything in the nfl. but as mentioned previously, most of these guys weren't expected to do anything in the nfl either.

If they're going to pick an Oregon QB - it's Joey Harrington.

He was really really good to great in college (4th in Heisman voting) - and the 3rd pick in the NFL draft.

Crouch was never a pro prospect and his Heisman win was a joke too. He was a cog in the Nebraska system and nothing that special. I never understood the love for him.

People like to point to ND QBs who get the benefit of the doubt and love - but Nebraska got way too much of that for individual players in the the last 20 years. So many of their players were total and complete busts on those so-called great 90's teams...and Crouch was at the tail-end in this past decade. Whipping up on Kansas and Troy State do not prepare you for the pros.

You could throw in David Carr with Joey, too. The hand-wringing among experts over which of those two to pick as a franchise qb seems pretty funny now.

Frazier was 10x better than Crouch. I just don't like to see Frazier getting hated on, when the demise of his career had nothing to do with ability. Crouch didn't deserve to win the Heisman, but Frazier did.

I think he's the GOAT, too. I rank him ahead of Tebow and Young and Newton and the rest. He doesn't get nearly enough love.

Frazier was definitely better than crouch, but crouch will probably always be remembered since he was the last great Nebraska option qb. He was also a 4 year starter and owns a ton of Nebraska records. As much as I hated Nebraska back then I kind of miss the old huskers style of football.
