Elon literally said he doesn't always tell the truth when asked for proof of his Social Security claim. During the same Oval office..whatever that was....Trump kept changing what DOGE has "saved". It was billions, 10 billion, hundreds of billions, back down to billions....they just make shite up whole cloth and folks just LAP IT UP.
THIS!!!
They make wild claims similar to the Haitians eating cats and dogs and then claim that even if it isn’t true they are virtuous by shedding light on the subject. They just make wildly exaggerated claims and then leave them out there for cult to repeat and repeat until it’s fact. I for one can’t keep up with the chaos.

Unfortunately, under the circumstances, sending money back to taxpayers is a horrible idea
It has got to go toward paying down the debt

No there isn’t.

When CNN and MSNBC begrudgingly have to report that the US government has a budget surplus in a couple of years, maybe these guys will believe that DOGE made a difference. Or they will just say this was the delayed effect of the Biden administration, lol.
Dude I’m all for Doge and Trump but you’re the most naive poster in this thread. The US won’t run a surplus again our lifetime.

Some of you just don't get it. If we don't turn the Federal deficit into a budget surplus soon, the US government will go into bankruptcy and the economy and society collapse.

Let’s cut all the waste and fraud - no disagreement there - but you simply don’t know what you’re discussing. The US can run deficits and pile up debt forever if it wants, same as you and your family. The much bigger problem, although still not the end of the world, is the pace at which it grows relative to GDP.
This debt urgency of late is welcomed, but people talking like we’re less than a decade from societal and economic collapse due to debt simply don’t get it.

I mean I’m all for the potential money just curious? Is it more of a play for brownie points?
I'm for putting it all on the debt to pay that down by whatever amount, but we don't really know how much that's going to be yet. Hell, it might not even be enough to cover the deficit, thus it would just go towards making the deficit not quite as much.
If somehow it's over the ~$1.8T estimated deficit for the year and these are permanent cuts, put the excess on the debt. The real key going forward is to hold spending down while tax revenues continue to move upward so more and more can go towards the debt.

“Some of the things that I say will be incorrect, and should be corrected,” Musk, the billionaire businessman who is leading a Trump administration initiative they call the Department of Government Efficiency, said when a reporter told him the Gaza story was wrong. “So, nobody’s going to bat a thousand. I mean, any – you know, we will make mistakes, but we’ll act quickly to correct any mistakes.”
It was in regards to the $50M spent on condoms for Gaza, not SS. Though the SS claims have been thoroughly debunked, too..must be another other those things that he says which "will be incorrect and should be corrected".

Well that is a far cry from this

Yep, it needs to be tackled for sure, but federal debt is just a weirdly different animal.
Someone mentioned earlier in the thread about CC debt, and that is a decent point. There is a lot of it out there right now and its going to be a problem. Would this payment go towards that for a lot of people that should be putting it towards that debt? Probably not, but i'd wager a decent amount of people it would. Wishful thinking anyways.

Nobody gives a f that you don't like the way they are going about it or that you don't trust Elon. The American people voted for this. We voted to go line by line and get rid of all the fraud and waste in this bloated government. Your opinion on how Trump decides to execute that plan doesn't matter.

Agree. This thread is full of waste and fraud supporters. These hypocrites will say anything because they just hate Trump and DOGE and want them to fail regardless of the consequences. Same idiots are blaming Trump for the recent plane crashes. Resist at all costs!

Well, the constitution is supposed to have something to say about it, but GOP suddenly doesn’t care much about that pesky piece of paper.
