We’ve seen many threads here on this board about how China will have a reckoning with their population issues.

What exactly does it mean?

And obviously no one has a crystal ball, but can anyone estimate when you’ll actually start to hear about this on the news and see effects from it.?

How quickly can they recover from that as well?

Marxist states have a special talent for reducing their populations quickly.

There is already conversation that they have been fibbing on population and that their counts may be much lower.

I’ve seen reports that their actual population may be south of 500 million based on some analysis.

The report I saw was actually very interesting and made a lot of sense that there was no way they had over 1 billion by limiting births for so long. I question it considering the amount of massive cities they have, but if they have very few cities in most of their country it is certainly possible.

The demographic issue is the bigger issue. Disproportionately male and disproportionately older.

You would prefer to have closer to 50/50 sex distribution and under 40 median age. Older people contribute less to the economy and consume more social resources.

There are projections that in 50 years the population of Nigeria will exceed the population of China

That's not what the OP is asking. They can lie all they want, but they are a major international player so at some point that has to be felt

Is this accounting for the massive cities they have built that are completely empty? Just to keep people busy they are non-stop building but they dont have anyone to live in them.

The OP asked when we will hear about it happening in China. We wont. Our news wont report anything that isn't approved by the Chinese government and China isn't going to be sending PR notices out about the problems they have.

We will see issues long before we ever actually hear about them.

Isn’t this problem exactly what AI is intended to solve?

AI, Automation, and advanced Robotics are going to make these population shortage discussions look stupid. Seems Japan and South Korea are the only ones who have figured this out. We aren't going to need as many people in the future.
