Better net out inflation and would start closer to 8% before netting inflation than 12% without netting inflation.

That calculation is gonna sting, sorry.

No idea but my real estate trajectory is starting to really take form now. Pretty excited to be honest.

he said hes made 19% in 5 years

if we assume inflation is 3% per year, compounded, thats 15.9%

if we assume inflation is 5% per year, compounded, thats 27%

my math isnt wrong, maybe his is though

Hope to have 8 figures but don’t need that much. I think a lot will depend on kids and when my SO and I decide enough is enough.

Not high enough with the way this country is being run. By the time I'm 60 I'll need a billion dollars.

You'll get your government stipend from Bezos and Zuckerberg.

Don't worry.

Until 2018, it was in Vanguard’s S&P 500, health, and US growth funds. I shed the health fund then had it half and half between S&P 500 and US growth funds. Then in 2019 I started to slowly shift more weight into the S&P 500 fund. I’m now roughly 65% 500 and 35% US growth.

19% annualized rocket.

I know you’re not used to these double digit returns though, so I’ll give you a pass. Any less than triple digits is a bad year for you.

There are plenty of ways to achieve a CAGR of >40%.

You'd just have to accept that the volatility of your returns would be insane and you'd be taking on enormous levels of risk.

There would be no alpha generation but you'd be increasing returns through beta. So effectively, buying index funds on margin or leveraged funds. You can then pair them up with an uncorrelated asset like CCOR or Treasuries.

Or, market time and deleverage/leverage.

If you're looking for alpha generation, invest in Private Equity or Hedgefunds.

im not taking up for rocket and 5 years ago i would have said thats amazing....now laughable.

12% returns like op is talking about....why, just why?

and slack, i know you are always messing with us crypto guys and paper gains, but one could spend an easy $200 up front on a single discord & 3 commas bot and they will make 12% per month easy just playing the called single plays, not even including you could make more than 12% just staking.

i could never go back to those types of returns. 12% can make that in a month in a bear market just picking off 0.5% plays with a grid bot.

but yall have fun working until the 60+ range.

That's a good bit MORE than most people. You are not going to get 12% and you will have to become more conservative as you get older. I'm retired and don't have that much.

You are not going to get 12%

Why does everyone keep saying this? Am I that ignorant here? It’s not hard to achieve an average annual ROI of 10-12% each year. Some years are obviously going to be less but most years will be in the ballpark. Where am I wrong? Am I looking at this totally wrong? If I’m wrong, teach me.

Well, it’s not a simple average. Losing 37% in 2008 isn’t made up by making 26% and 15% in 2009 and 2010 - you’d still be nearly 9% down from where you started.

The 2006-2020 timeframe you posted had an annualized return of less than 10% (9.88%). The annualized return of the S&P over the last 30 calendar years is less than 11% (10.72%).

Apparently there’s a whole lot for me to learn. This blows my mind. Can you explain that math for me?

Take $100. Drop it by 40% and you now have $60. Grow that by 50% and you still only have $90. And so on and so forth.

Just be thankful the market tends to go up 3 out of any 4 years.
