I unfortunately had one close to $500 a couple of years ago including water & sewage. Large house with a pool - had the house up for sale and ran the pool pump a lot and kept house a little cooler than usual.

76 is doable. It's about the limit though

I've heard bad things about doing this. I doubt it has time to cool the house to 80 in just 1.5 hrs. Especially during one of the hottest parts of the day.
Zack,
We keep the fans on. It feels fine. Sometimes we jump down to 75 if the wife isn't feeling well.

It doesn't necessarily get down to 80 at 4pm...
My electric bill is down $100 this summer...

The point is you don't want your a/c running all the time. it, supposedly, messes up the unit. which cost you a lot more than the $100 you save.

Ah...never heard that even from some A/C folks...

$200.00 3300sqft.house. The main reason for my low electric bill,is the windows. Marvin windows with some special coating (don`t remember what)and they are filled with argon gas. When we built the house double insulated aluminum window for the house were around $6000.00,the windows we went with were$25000.00. Bought them for the way they look, but they are very efficient.

$581 this month!!! Half of it was "fuel adjustment charges". I don't understand how there can be a fuel adjustment of that much when the price of natural gas has barely risen.

2000 SQ foot. bill last month was $278.00. we keep the thermostat at 74. It usually reaches about 78-80 degreens by 5:00pm but back to 74 by 10:00PM. I am currently tinting all the windows in my house and hoping this helps as well.

Yeah, it's actually kind of opposite. You don't want it going on and off all the time. Short cycling will decrease the life of your unit.

My mom averages about 500 in the summer, 5000 sqft and three floors. The basement is where I sleep in the summer because it's always cold down there.
